I bypassed the newby room for the reason that I wanted the experts to answer this. Although I have never posted, I have frequented this site for a long time and have nothing but respect for most of the posters on this forum. I would appreciate advice on the following issue.
A friend and I had a heated debate over an issue in our survivor pool. Each person playing picks one team per week to win, straight up, no point spread. If win that week you move on to the next. You can't pick the same team twice. I'm pretty sure this is how most sur. pools are set up but I figured I'd lay down all the facts.
Here's the question. If the guy running the pool has the ability to know who everyone else picks and then makes his picks after seeing all the other picks, does he have an advantage in winning it??
Let me set up a scenario:
Scenario #1 - There are 17 people in the pool. 10 of them pick Green Bay who is a 10 pt. favorite. The guy running the pool (we'll call him Cheater) sees that 10 people picked Green Bay. The other 7 pick mixed games (2 on one game, 2 on another, and 3 on another). Although Cheater originally wanted to pick Green Bay, he now takes Philly who is an 8 pt.favorite because if Green Bay loses, there are only 7 people left in the pool. Is this an advantage for Cheater to see what other teams pick before he makes his pick?
Basically, he's picking a team slightly less favored because he's hoping Green Bay will lose and eliminate more then 50% of the field which would give him much greater odds of winning the following week.
Thank you in advance for any responses.
Does the reward outweigh the risk?
