I have to say...that on the whole I agree with Commissioner Tagliabue's comments about Jamal Lewis....although I hoped he would have told him that in private I find it a bit harsh, publicly. I am not condoning Lewis's behavior as it was truly criminal and he knew this when he picked up the phone. I feel he got off light with the 4 months in the pokey and 2 in the half-way house. If I had made that call I would not be posting here for a while, a long while.
I don't have any kids but I wonder if my nephews will ask me about it...it worries me. Do we have a different criminal code for professional athletes. Rafael Furcal definitely got preferential treatment in Cobb County Court on Wednesday. Then I open the paper and see Sammy Sosa doesn't have enough character or respect to be a teammate last Sunday; that was "only" $87K. I don't want his autograph or Lewis' either.
