The Tampa Bay Lightning were supposed to raise their Stanley Cup championship banner tonight to kick off the new season. Instead, the arena that rocked during the finals in June will be dark because of a labor dispute that shows no sign of ending soon. That will be the case, too, for Ottawa, Chicago, Colorado, Phoenix, Anaheim and San Jose, also slated to host openers Wednesday night.

As a lifelong hockey fan and avid hockey bettor I am very unhappy with this situation. wil.

Well I'm sympathetic to those of you into hockey. I would hate to lose a sport I enjoyed.

I don't, however, enjoy hockey. Hockey to me is like soccer on ice. Can't stand the game and I always hated having all the hockey highlights on SportsCenter every night, so I'm kinda happy not to have to see those every day.

Let the flames begin. :drink:

I will miss hockey, but not right now. They certainly have no need to be playing in October, or before the Superbowl for that matter.

I agree - was thinking just that when I started the thread. I am going to miss the game a lot more in January then I do right now (unless they are back playing).

I'm a die hard hockey fan having grown up in different parts of Canada. I believe they are doing much harm to all those concerned. It is already a marginal major sport compared to the others in terms of revenue, tv deals...etc... It's unfortunate but I have a strong opinion that TV coverage does not do this sports justice. There's nothing like seeing it live and if your really close to the action you appreciate the speed and ability of these athletes. In my mind(yah, yah I'm bias) the Stanley Cup is the toughest major sport championship to win, absolutely grueling. You can't tell me they haven't had ample time to settle this ****(over a couple of years now). Is the salary cap model that the NFL has that difficult to model. What is healthy for a franchise and a league is parity, whether you have 10 or 20 or 30 teams. For the most part this model brings prosperity to the league and franchise. They probably get things together soon and have a modifyied 40 game schedule after the holidays. Now Basebal just doesn't have a clue, no, no, I can't get started on those clowns

Coach, sometimes the student needs to teach the 'coach'...

Baseball & Hockey have the lowest "theoritical" hold in sports gambling, therefore offer the best chance of winning from a mathematical perspective....

If you can pick up a knack for where the line will move your advantge increases ever so much more....
