I think that going into this series on PAPER the Cards biggest advantage was in the bullpen. While other than Brad Lidge the Astros pen has been exposed as very suspect the Cards hasnt been much better. And if your a real student of the game you saw this coming. LaRussa is a master of shuttling rhp/lhp/rhp in and out to take advantage of matchups while depleting the oppositions bench. The only problem is that the Astros have 3 switch hitters and 2 of them are sluggers. This has left LaRussa unable to play his favorite bullpen games. In fact the 2 times he tried turning Berkman around to his supposed weaker side of the plate with Ray King, Berkman homered twice. This has left LaRussa frustrated and has exposed his starters, who the relievers had saved all year. Remember 5- # 3 quality starting pitchers does not a World Series rotation make.
