Houston Astros/St. Louis Cardinals O 10½ (Munro - R, Morris - R)

I guess it should not come as any great shock that the Astros took all 3 games at home against the Cardinals, considering that Houston is an obscene 22-1 recently at home. However, the shocking thing was that the Cardinals offense was completely shutdown in all 3 games, generating a grand total of only SEVEN runs combined. The bottom line for St. Louis this afternoon is that they must immediately regain their OFFENSIVE edge in order to force a game seven tommorrow night. Another key factor to consider here is that the ball travels better during the DAY, as opposed to the evening hours. Today's NLCS contest represents the final DAY game of the 2004 season, so I am going to take full advantage. Actually, these two squads played a couple of afternoon contests in Houston, however, Minute Maid Park has a ROOF that encloses the stadium. This afternoon's game in St. Louis will be played outdoors during the day, which is how baseball used to be. Of course, St. Louis had the absolute best record in all of baseball during the regular season, and one of the reasons was due to an devastating offense that so far in the playoffs has averaged EIGHT runs per game in 4 home contests. Houston is starting young Peter Munro this afternoon who got lit up in game two at Busch Stadium. The reason why manager Phil Garner did NOT elect to go with Roger Clemens was because the veteran labored in just FIVE innings in the Divisional round when asked to pitch on short rest. If this series goes the full 7 games, rest assured the Astros will get a quality start tommorrow night from Clemens. But this afternoon, the Astros will go with Munro who has a sky high 6.56 career ERA when facing the mighty Cardinal bats. St. Louis will counter with Matt Morris. As I mentioned the last time he pitched, Morris has spent most of the season among the league leaders in homeruns ALLOWED, which is bad news when you consider that Houston has been hitting non-stop round trippers in this series. St. Louis is 9-2 OVER for the season when playing at home with a DAY OFF. Houston has gone OVER at a 10-3 clip the game after SHUTTING OUT an opponent. I jumped on the "under" Monday evening in Houston where both teams had just ONE HIT entering the 9th inning. However, I am reversing direction this afternoon.

GOOD LUCK
