I normally bet $100 to $200 a game, so I'm small-time. I am a huge Cardinals fan, and have $1,000 on them at a combined 13-2 to win the World Series. I did not hedge the first round, and bought the Astros to win the NLCS for $200 when it was +550. So I have a $100 profit locked in right now. Should I just let it ride, then hedge the Red Sox for about $1500 for the WS? Or should I make a $500 bet on the Astros in Game 7 to lock in more profit? Or, should I just let the whole thing ride, including the World Series? On one hand, I feel good, knowing that I will not lose anything if the Cards lose tomorrow, and I just want to let it ride. On the other hand, I can lock up some substantial profits if I choose to do so. It's kind of like deciding whether or not to take down my bets at the craps table.....hindsight is always 20/20. But I'm stressed out thinking about this. Opinions?

If you are stressed out about it then take the hedge. If you don't do it and they lose you probably will kick yourself for a long time and it could color your opinions in a negative way in the future. I usually advocate against hedging except when the stakes mean too much to you not to do it.

Am I reading this right, if Cards win tomorrow you take 6.5K and lose $200?

Why would he hedge??

It makes no difference if they make it to the world series, as they are still going to lose.

Save your money buddy, and ride it out. No benefit on betting the Astros tommorow.. Unless of course you think that Clemens is a better pitcher than Suppan.

Give BB 2.5k he makes it 20k within 3 months 99out

Hedge with Houston +1.5 on the runline that way you can still win both of them. I wouldn't hedge at all if it was my money.

If the Cards win tomorrow, then I will have invested a total of $1200 to win $6500 if Cards go on to win the WS. Nothing would be locked in, until I hedge some of the World Series. If the Astros win, then I will win $1100 and lose the $1000 and finish the futures with a $100 profit. My thinking is that it was a huge bet for me in July and August, and it would be crazy not to at least make a little money. I think tomorrow's game is a toss-up, so part of me wants to hedge. Part of me also wants to say WTF, let's go Cardinals!

I would hedge.....you're thinking "if I hedge and could have won it all it will suck"....TRUST me that is MUCH more easy to swallow than losing the bulk of it. Again, I would hedge, but the real question is, what is your position financially, if it has no bearing on your bankroll either way then you may want to gamble, if it's going to hurt you to lose then the choice is obvious.

Illini,

Have faith my friend! Our Cards will not let us down tomorrow. I don't know if they will win the series but I know they will find a way tonight. As a Cardinal fan you should know that. Only Game 7 Cards have ever lost at home was Game 7 of 68 WS vs Tigers on Curt Flood misplay. We won in NLCS in 87, 82 WS, 26 WS, etc.... Don't bet on Houston! This bunch remembers 01 on the last day of season when Houston won division on last day in St. Louis and they won't let it happen again. It may take half the night but we will prevail. Go Cardinals!

I always hedge. The point of doing this is to make money. Any time you can guarantee profit you do what you can to ensure you made something. That's just how I see it.

Viking611- Whatutalkinboutwillis? I took out an insurance policy last Saturday, before I promptly went 6-0 and took Skybook for $1500! I haven't hedged anymore yet, and I think I'll just let these dice roll. Suppan better roll a lot of hard 4's and 10's tonight! Let's go Cardinals!!!

Kojak-thanks for the advice, as I am taking it. Glad you're a part of Cardinal Nation, and let's hope the Redbirds get it done tonight and in the Series!
