Does anyone have both G&J and Don Best Premium? If so, whose screen changes first for the major books (those that take the steam hits first like Pinny and Grande)?

I tried G&J last year but they were a few (crucial) seconds behind BD Premium. However, I am impressed by all the G&J changes this year ... if that includes speed to match DB Premium then I might have to try G&J again.

Thanks in advance!

We will give you a free trial of our Gold Service. You'd have to ask them to do the same so you can see for yourself. Unfortunately I have learned that this forum isnt the place for that kind of question.

1.) DB is a preferred advertiser here, so it is a conflict of interest for the staff here.

2.) It almost always gets out of hand and turns into a pissing match.

Better just to get our service, try theres and see for yourself.

mls,

I have DBS Premium and G&J Gold Service (as a trial offer was extended by the fine folks of G&J).

DBS Premium is quicker updating their lines. For instance, I have accounts and Hollywood and Grande and both of these move faster on DBS than they do on G&J. Also, I can confirm with these two books, the lines are accurate on DBS. They are NOT accurate on G&J (in other words, the lines are different on the G&J screen than what is actually posted at Grande and Hollywood). RIO, SKYBOOK, Pinnacle and a few others that are on both services also move faster at DBS, but I cannot confirm if they are the accurate lines being posted on either service, as I do not have accounts with any of these books.

On average, G&J updates 15-20 seconds slower. Price wise, it's no comparison as G&J is much cheaper. Feature wise, DBS has them beat. User friendliness, DBS has them beat. Stability of the software, DBS has them beat. Asthetically appealing, DBS has them beat.

It's good that there are TWO good lines services now (not counting Jim Feist or Rx), as competition only benefits the player, but G&J, in my opinion, is just not there yet. But I do know they are very appreciative of the user feedback and are very willing to work out a deal to keep their customers happy.

DBS has been the king for so long. It's just going to take some time for G&J to catch up to them. But I do think they are on the right track.

Hope this helps.

I used G&J about 2 years ago and back then I thought the same thing as Chalk, so I guess they haven't updated much since then. Not sure, since I'm not using it now. I've used DB for over 5 years now, and not counting some minor problems, i think they are the best as off now.

I know G&J regularly update their program, as their are new versions every few weeks, but like you, I cannot tell any major differences between the old and new versions.

The program needs to be cleaned up. It's not as easy on the eyes as DBS is, and the controls need to be simplified.

Thanks for your honest judgement. I cant dispute it because I honestly havent watched DBs screen. Maybe our presence has changed things in their office, because most of the people I talk to were saying that our lines were more accurate and faster. In fact, most of the threads I still read say their numbers dont mean anything at a majority of the books on their screen.

As far as pleasing on the eyes, and other improvements, list them... we will get them all taken care of ASAP. We do want to be the best eventually.

I wish G&J good luck but any serious player has to have Don Best. End of story.
BINGO!
According to my rating system DBs user interface is 9 GJ is 4.25
GJ is not worth $250

Please improve the UI!

Hire eastern european programmers from rentacoder.com, they are good and much cheaper.

Thanks Chalk - exactly the info I needed. Speed is everything to me.

I wish G&J every possible success (I hate monopolies), but why pay $250/mo for G&J if it is 15-20 sec behind DB for the major books (where the steam shows first)? Might was well pay $100/mo for the DB Express Odds (2-min delay?) since honestly a 20 second delay has the same practical effect as a 2 minute delay on steam moves.

By the way, if G&L offered a 1 minute delay deal (half of DB's 2 minute delayed Express Odds) they would have something IMO.

So my reluctant conclusion is that G&J is over priced until they can match the speed of DB for steam moves. My advice to G&J is to offer a delay deal like DB's Express Odds for $100/mo but faster than DB Express Odds until they can match DB's steam speed on the premium line service.

Darn it - back to DB $550/mo for basketball season for me.

MLS,

Without going into detail, it is technically impossible for anybody to beat the speed of our line changes. We are the only company with direct feeds from the sportsbooks that are on our Premium Odds service, so we receive the changes as they happen.

Because we have been fortunate enough to be in the industry for so long, we have benefited from years of experience, customer feedback and technology. Our team of programmers is constantly looking for ways to streamline our stream of information.

As for the price, I used to say the same thing when I was a customer. But once I got here and experienced for myself what it takes to do what we do, I realized that $550 per month is a fair price.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, I dont want to start a pissing match (again). But please state the facts, unless you truly dont know them, in which case it wouldnt be your fault. The fact of the matter is that we too have direct feeds right out of the databases from the books, plain and simple. Some of them I helped create. I didnt want to come on here and say that we did or did not have faster lines, and I wont because personally I dont know. In this thread it sounds like DB does have a slight lead by a few seconds. I have read in other places, as well as heard on the phone that we are faster by a few seconds. The best I can offer to the customers is our service for free, and let them be the judge of it. I invite you to do the same. If you have a superior product, then there should be no problems with this and you will get the customers in the end anyways.

For $300 less a month there is def. value in our Live service, but lets keep the lying out of it. I wont post any more negative about DB, and would hope for the same in return.

As a side note, we are strongly considering giving a 1 minute delay version out for free. A product like that is sure to get some use.

Our line updates are right on. To be totally honest I am just a programmer and pretty new to the whole sportsbetting industry. Everyone says that the interface is off. I am more than happy to adjust it and modify it where necessary, I just dont have specific enough feedback to do so. Most suggestions that I have received lately have been put into place. If you used it a month ago, check back now. The look and feel of it has changed tremendously in that time. I will always listen to suggestions and adapt accordingly.

We are working on a deal right now that will give us a ridiculous amount of books. (In the hundreds...)

Mike here is one last suggestion

Have a option up on top like DB called window where we can split screen vertically or horizontally and then I will say you will be real close to DB interface.

I am not in the biz of bashing line services anymore but just want to make them better

My new motto is they are both excellent along with RX line service and it is all a matter of preference.

Good Luck

What exactly do you gain by doing that? You would lose half the screen, so you arent really fitting more games on the board.. I dont get it. It would be pretty simple to do I would imagine, but I dont totally understand the point to it. Do you lose books to gain more games, or vice versa?
