the single greatest picture i have ever taken was of ellis burks
september, 1991. i am working at espn so i made the 100-ish mile drive from bristol to bahhhstahhhhn. i even manged to have peter gammons give me his seats (and believe it, or not, they were NOT together but actually 1 in front of another - albeit right behind home plate).
it is B9 and the sox are losing 2-0 or 3-0. ellis comes to the plate. the crowd was thinned out so i sat in the very front row. i stuck my camera up against the screen and tried to take a pic thru the holes in it. i took 8 pix and 1 came out.
it was of ellis.
the pic was FANTASTIC. i got it blown up and a few years later when ellis was with the rockies i went to get it signed by him. when i showed him the pic he flipped! he was speechless. he asked me where i got the picture. i told him i took it - and asked if he liked it. he said he did and wanted to know if i could make him a copy. i did that and sent it to him. i assume/hope he got it.
i've shown it to friends who have been to Sox games at fenway and they all love it, too.
that is my Ellis Burks memory.
