How about a Handicapping contest between the Political Parties?

It is the political season and there seems to be a lot of talk on the forum here lately about which Political Party has the most uneducated voters. Well, instead of bickering back and forth with inane arguments to try and prove the other guys wrong, how 'bout we settle this like the gamblers that we are? Why don't we have a handicapping contest and split up into our favorite political parties and determine the REAL smartest party:party: ? We can have all parties represented, too, not just Republicans and Democrats. Libertarians, Greens, Reform, Constitution, Socialists, etc - all are welcome. Just choose your party and you 'cap for that team. We could, say, cap any sport (football, basketball, hockey??), keeping track of units won or lost, until the deadline of Jan 20 - Inauguration Day. The winning team would be "inaugurated" as the smartest political party for the rest of the year and would have bragging rights for that time.

Wouldn't this be more fun than beating each other up on the forums day in and day out? Think of the possibilities - Will the Democrats be able to overcome their natural urge to bet emotionally :cry4: on their favorite downtrodden teams or against politically incorrect teams like the Redskins? Will the Republicans ever be able to bet AGAINST the Patriots or bet ON any team from San Fran:hump: ? Will the Libertarians start quickly, then collapse when too much of the wacky stuff :smoker2: causes them to accidentally bet on the Clippers to win it all? Will the Greens :greenguy: be able to muster up enough gumption to place a bet on the Oilers? Will the Socialists end up winning it all, make emotional speeches renouncing capitalism, then offer to redistribute all the winnings :money8: to the other teams equally?

Anyway, just thought I'd throw this idea out there for public consumption. A 'capping contest could be a welcome diversion from the daily political infighting :fight: that has become so overbearing lately, in my opinion. And for God's sake, we are supposed to be gamblers, aren't we? Let's start acting like it. :ok:

I think you should get 5 republicans, 5 democrats, and 5 Indy's/Other

each person from each group puts up 100$ to make a prize pool, and maybe we can get a book to kick in a little extra..

Then we start the capping and it will be a team effort.. but each person must make their own pick.. then you compile the records, the team witht he best record takes all the money an splits evenly between the team

I think it would be fun

I'd be happy to handicapp for the independent team if this happens.

As a Libertarian, I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I'm tired of being lumped into the Indep/other category. A Libertarian has absolutely NOTHING in common with, say, a Socialist, and for that matter, very little in common with the Greens or Reform Parties, either. If this is a contest to determine the "smartest" party, I'd rather be grouped with the party of my choice, not some hodge podge melting pot of other unrelated parties. Oh, and how's this for an idea ... instead of the winning team splitting the winnings amongst its members, how about having the winnings donated to the National Party of the winning team. That would eliminate the need to make all the teams have equal numbers. Just an idea.
