Computer question

I recently re-installed windows XP on my computer, and now it is saying I do not have a soundcard.. but I did before I decided to reinstall... did I do somethign wrong or how do I activate it or whatever..

I really do not know much when it comes to computers...as you can tell

This could get time consuming and we still may get no where. I am going on break. Hopefully someone will assist you soon. A great feature on XP is the help files. You can likely solve the problem there. Just type in Sound as a help topic and read a bit. Sorry, be back soon.

Noreaga, you should have a system restoration disk "if" you bought the computer new... If you do, the hardware drivers (sound) should be on the disk.
If not, you would have to go look for the drivers at the soundcard/computer's manufactorer's site and d/l install from there.. good luck

You should be able to get the driver from the website of the maker of your soundcard...check there first, sure to be up to date.

the thing is i cant find out the info on my soundcard... i goto system info and then to sound device and its just blank it doesnt provide any info..

the computer is an athlon.. maybe thats the brand I need?

I hate computers.. it is running 1000 times betetr now that I reinstalled but now I dont have sound.

system restore is a good idea but you may have to re-install XP...then go to windows updates and look for the driver and any updates since the original install date...this all will take a couple of hours.

Noreaga, do you have the system restoration CD??

IF you do, the sound card drivers will be on that CD, just load the driver from the CD and your all set, 5 minutes tops!

i dont think I do.. I just have the windows XP cd, and one that says "motherboard"

Look at the top:

AMD Driver Pack, Version 2.1.0.1 - (Detects the current operating system(Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Server 2003 32-bit) and hardware and installs the proper drivers. Refer to AMD Device Drivers Installation Guide for details)
AMD Driver Pack is a comprehensive installation program for the AMD-8000 series chipset.

I believe you can click your "My Computer" on the desktop and under general information look to see if you have that 8000 series chipset, if so, your in like JJGold....:toothless

Computer:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1.99 GHZ
224 MB of RAM

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 1

so do I still follow that site? I dont think I have the 8000

nevermind cheater.. I threw in that motherboard CD for the hell of it and it installed all of my drivers and now i have sound!
