Does the lack of hockey hurt the bottom line of books? I would assume less events to bet on would hurt somewhat, even a gutter sport like hockey?

Depends though, I know if a place has a good base of Canadians it can hurt. I remember one manager telling me he thinks many of the square Canadians bet NBA as an afterthought after getting in some hockey bets. Square action on NBA is extremely lucrative, hard to say if those squares are still betting when hockey isn't getting them to the books. One thing about hockey, those of us that watch it are dedicated and have an opinion on a deceptively hard game to cap. Good customers could be lowering their overall betting because of it.
