The 34-year-old swingman, who will make $14.6 million this season in the final year of his current deal, blamed media spin for most of the backlash against him.

Earlier this week, Sprewell lashed out at his lack of an extension - stirring up criticism by threatening to ask for a trade and suggesting he didn't owe the organization anything this year because it hadn't taken care of him.

the 14.6 million he makes this year is more money than most people make in a lifetime. he should be able to feed his family for years to come. they might even be able to treat themselves to tony roma's a few times.

hes just being greedy and it upsets me becuase spree was a car stereo installer who didnt even start to play hoops until his senior year of high school.

i wouldnt resign a 34 year old player like spree. there will be better free agents out there next year.

Average NBA players has 6 kids and with 4 different mothers...

Does Shawn "what's protection" Kemp still lead the league?

As was pointed out on the radio last night....

"There's no problem with saying "I have kids to feed" when you make 14 million dollars. It's not a classy thing to say and it makes you look like a jerk...but there's nothing wrong with it. There is something wrong however...with insinuating or indicating that if you don't get a contract extension... you won't put forth the same effort."

I agree 100%. If the guy wants to complain about not having enough money to feed his kids (Doesn't Sprewell own a car with a wine cellar in it?) Fine... But to say you're not going to try as hard... Thats the biggest low-class scum thing he could have said.

Stern fired back and said essentially "You won't give any less effort because of contract negotiations...not in this league"

Stern is probably the best of the commisioners. Sprewell will likely be fined or suspended if he doesn't retract those comments (Sources say)

Let's all take a collection, feed his family a meal, and maybe he'll shave points for us.
