Its unfathomable that a coach would not understand he needed to take a timeout when Quincy ran a draw for a first down at the 3 with 50 seconds left. take a TO there to get organized and you have enough time to run twice, use your last timeout then throw once into the end zone.
what the Jets did instead was a train wreck. This is 100% the head coaches responsibility.

in a short season ( 16 games) blowing a game like this will be very costly. home field advantage, first round bye, miss the playoffs on a tie breaker cause their 9-7 instead of 10-6 etc.

I think that's horseshit IMO. Coaches work 100+ hours a week... and all I ever see is arm chair quarterbacks saying what they would and wouldn't have done differently AFTER THE FACT. You're making a different point now... You're saying the guy shouldn't be the coach... That's fine. That arguement can be made for several people. But since none of us will ever be in the position to make a call as crucial as that... Speculating really does no good.
My point in all of this is it's too bad when someone who's had as much class as Herm Edwards gets attacked by a bunch of "know-it-alls" on a GAMBLING MESSAGE BOARD because of one mistake he made. It's too bad ESPN didn't cover what we did at work

The Jets specifically hired a guy this year for clock management situations and the look on Herm's face was one of total confusion. Unacceptable. This was a huge loss looking at the upcoming schedule. After a soft first half of the schedule, the going gets a lot tougher. This team could possibly miss the playoffs after a 5-0 start.

Herm Edwards is just like Wannstedt and Martz. They can't make the right decisions during crucial moments of the game. That's the difference between a great coach and a good coach.
If the Jets can play the Dolphins 16 times this season, they would look unbeatable. They NY hype machine was out of control the first half of the season when they didn't play anyone too difficult. Now we get to see what they are made of. They will be in a dogfight for a Wild Card. And all of us Patriots fans had to hear it for weeks how they were going to take the Division from us. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

for seemingly intelligent people - i have never seen a bunch of guys so freaking stupid when it come to clock management.
the ONE that has me climbing walls the fastest is this:
Team A has the ball deep in team B's territory. Team B is up between 1-8 points and has 3 timeouts left.
Team A runs a play and gets close to the goal line. The clock ticks and Team B NEVER calls any timeouts to try and stop th clock.
WHY!
i have NEVER understood why teams don't call timeouts on defense to save time on the clock!
these teams choose not to use their timeouts and as a result WHEN Team A scores and now Team B needs a score to tie/win the game - they have a lot of timeouts and not a lot of time left.
the biggest bonehead move lately was Andy Reid in the Eagles @ Browns game
browns down 7 but at the eagles' doorstep just about with about 1 minute left. eagles NEVER call any timeouts. so when the browns score to tie the game the eagles have all 3 timeouts left - but less than 30 seconds to move up the field. as is no shock - the eagles do nothing and go to OT

ok - but as much trust as you have in them - if you are up 3 and the team has the ball at your 5 - and you have any timeouts left - you GOTTA call them - for even the '86 bears aren't going to stop a team from kicking a FG (in all likelihood) at that range. and as much confidence as you might have - the fact is TIME is the most important aspect - and once a second ticks off the clock - they can't put it back on.cincy_hugg said:
