Assume that there are only 2 way to score points in football: a 7 point touchdown or a 3 point field goal.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Using combinations of 7 and 3, a team will be able to score almost all number values in points.

(i.e. 2 touchdowns and 3 field goals is 23 points, 3 touchdowns and 1 field goal is 24 points, 1 touchdown and 6 fieldgoals is 25 points, etc).

There are some number values that cannot be achieved. (i.e. 8 points cannot be obtained from any combination of 3 and 7).

QUESTION: What is the smallest number that can be achieved by a team with these rules, where every number LARGER can also be achieved?

LOL

12 is right, its a basic proof, college level actually. The tick is in being able to prove it, not just come up with the number.

i don't think there is a trick (tick). one obviously knows how they got there if they figured it out - right?

Vol, are we assuming 7 points only for a touchdown or is there an extra point? If there is an extra point its a no brainer.

Well, Hell that was easy; I thought you wanted some geometric proof or something.....There should be a math question of the day, by the way. I need to waste more time at work!
