can somebody explain NBA totals to me 174 open 171 off and 103 at half?

can somebody explain how the Vegas odds makers and the bettors can be so far off on a tempo and scoring in an NBA game? don they know things like tempo, half court, how the teams run the floor and stuff to set these lines?

Port Hou opens at 174 1/2 gets hammered all day down to 171.

How can the odds makers and bettors be so far off on something like the tempo of an NBA game? I was just following the steam I freely admidt I was lazy and I found a line that had not yet moved down from 174 when it was 172 at most other shops and played it because of that.

thas is frustrating to find a soft line, be on top of thigs and then have Vegas odddsmakers set such a bad line to start with you have no chance. not to mention the bettors hammering it downdowndown

believe me, pretty much every aspect of gambling is frustrating.....

another example today:

SAC/MIL 208... line being obviously influenced by the presence of the likely dominant team: Sacramento-- BUT Milwaukee has zero,zilch,zip, nada scorers... at the end of 3 quarters: 52-49 THREE QUARTERS!!!!!

Likely a case of a better team playing down to the level of its outgunned rival...

But you just NEVER know:

on Friday i had MIA/UTAH(Hawaii in college foots outscores the Heat at times) under 195½... it's 15-15 after a quarter, 40-39 halftime.... I'm singing: bring on double & triple overtime, who cares!! Halftime line comes up: 102... I'm like: what the heck...ok: they'll score more than 79 this half, but it's not like either team played the night before(tired teams that will loosen up on defense)....while i'm scratching my head it jumps UP one point to 103!!!!!!
that number is so high that an Over hedge will just be wasted money, i figure. So i doubled up on the Under in parlays & pleasers hooked to later teams(all of which subsequently won)-- then i came back with a multi-team Monster Teaser Over to hedge that Under bet. Second half they do score a bit more, with a minute something to go the lead is 6, so OT doesn't look plausible, 4 seconds to go the score is 90-88 Utah-- also had the Jazz at @5/2 money line parlayed to other games for a bit less money-- & am set to middle parlays, pleasers, teasers, everything.... Miami ties with one second to go-- but so what: i can still triple middle both second half main bets(though losing the pleasers) & the game-- if they play some defense. No: they score more in OT than in the first quarter.

Half-time totals in the NBA and NFL are strictly based on how far over or under the 1st-half total the actual scores goes, and they'll try and "halve it" upwards or downwards toward the actual game total...

For instance, the Jazz/Heat game finished at 79 for the 1st half...Ok, we now need 118 2nd half points to push this total...Nuh-uh...Vegas ain't releasing 118...Sorry...But they will generally pick a number right in the middle of 79 and 118, and add 1-to-3 points because Vegas knows bettors generally like to take Overs with totals...So half-way between 79 and 118 is 98.5, and Vegas simply tacked on a few points for good measure...

Same thing applies if the total goes 20 points Over the 1st-half total spread...If the 1st-half total of the Heat game would've been 99, then the 2nd-half total would've been placed at 99, no extra points would've been added in this case because Vegas is simply trying to take away middles from the bettor...

The sides are a little trickier, but not hard to figure out at all as half-time approaches for any NBA or NFL game...

I have all the NBA and NFL 2nd-half lines for the last 2 years and I can basically predict the half-time lines of any NBA or NFL game and be within a point...

Just watch the half-time lines for a few nights in a row and you'll see immediate patterns from Vegas...

It's not hard to figure out...If I could learn how Vegas does it, anyone can...

I just started using them to hedge games, usually hooked to other stuff.....it's been a fun ride so far......

AND i just started something new: today i began betting them alone in the NFL: betting a team that dominates the first half to continue to do so in the second...

I'm trying to determine which online book(besides 5dimes) has the most liberal rules for hooking the halves to other stuff--- & utilizing them in all types of bets... maybe even buying points, pleasers, action bets.....

another thing i'm thinking may really kick is nba & even college first half unders......even in games projected to be high-scoring....... whatcha think?

i think NBA quarters are the way to go.......
