Ok, I know I am biased here but let's look at what he has done. In 2000, he won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer at the helm. In 2001, they lost Jamal Lewis for the year in the pre-season and he went with 75 year old Terry Allen and still went to the final 8 before losing to Pittsburgh. In 2002, they had a salary cap purge and completely turned over 75% of their roster and missed the playoffs. In 2003, they bounced back and won the AFC North with a rookie QB for half of the year and retread Anthony Wright the other half. This year they are off to their best start ever with by far the most injuries in the NFL. They have missed Pro Bowler Peter Boulware for the entire year, Pro Bowler Todd Heap for 8 1/2 games, Pro Bowler Jonathan Ogden for 4 games, Pro Bowler Jamal Lewis for 2 games, Pro Bowler Chris McAllister for 1 game and their starting center Mike Flynn for the entire season. Yesterday, their top receiver recently, Clarence Moore can barely walk and has to take an IV to even suit up. Their starting TE, Terry Jones wakes up and can't play due to a nerve problem. No problem. A TE they pick up on waivers, Darnell Dinkins, catches 4 big passes including a TD. Brian Billick is hated by a lot of people because he is so outspoken and cocky. But let's face it, the guy is a tremendous coach. Not one of the early posters in Dante's top 5 teams thread lists the Ravens in the top 5. However, they crushed the unbeatable Steelers earlier in the year. When they get healthy, look out as they have the best coach in the NFL.

sorry he is not the best coach. He has one of the best GMs who are responsible for the Ravens great drafts.

Billick was billed as an offensive genius, which he is not. the Defense has been responsible for the Ravens success, which Billick has no hand in.

Its easy to be an offensive "genius" when you have carter moss and smith

Billick hasn't proven to me his is anywhere near the best coach...Ozzir has given him some great players...I'm sure Billick has a say in the Draft but I think Ozzie is the main reason balto has been succesful...When Billick produces a passing game, then maybe he can garner some votes...I just don't see it yet..

Noreaga,
Did he call himself an "offensive genius"? Isn't it the sign of a good coach that is an offensive coach that can win the Super Bowl with a great defense? Ozzie Newsome is a great GM and has had more success in the draft than anyone. But to say Billick has no hand in the defense is crazy. A big part of coaching in the NFL today in handling the players and their egos. He is a great motivator and his players love him. A great coach is someone that gets the most out of the talent he has to work with. The only coach that does this as well as Billick is Belichick.

If Marvin won him that Super Bowl, why is Marvin looking up at Billick in the standings? Why is the Ravens D still so good without Marvin? Are they 7-3 because of Mike Nolan now?

Billick is a great coach just would like to see him create a great offense...I would have to give Belichick the honor, but like anything your only as good as your personel to a large degree....Remember Belichick at Cleveland, he was nothing special or so it seemed...Bill Cowher has always gotten the most from his teams...

Belichick
Cowher
Billick

Top 3 as of now...Parcells might not be able to reach the modern player like he once did...He even admitted he can't get the Cowboys to respond to his style.

Noreaga,

You call me Einstein and then say they are using Lewis's schemes. Marvin Lewis was a great defensive coordinator for the Ravens. When Lewis was there they ran a 4-3. Mike Nolan came in and they switched to a 3-4. That is a completely diffent defense with completely different concepts and principles. Nice try but you are wrong.

I am an argumentative person by nature journey, im sorry if that clashes with your personality. this site does have an ignore feature rather than just whining about my abrasive posting style.

still sticking by your original comments? Billick might be good against the Bengals and Browns but he got it handed to him yesterday in every facet of the game.

He is overrated.

How was that loss due to coaching? It was 3-3 at halftime and NE wore down Baltimore in the 2nd half. Where were the poor coaching decisions and the great coaching decisions in that game? The better "team" won the game. Billick was also missing his 2 offensive weapons in Heap and Lewis. The losing team isn't always outcoached. Do I honestly think Billick is as good a coach as Belichick? No. I started this thread on a slow day to create some chatter. Do I think Billick is underrated and better than poster boys like Cowher? Yes.

Ego man needs to find a way to generate some offense...even with the injuries.

Andy is the best everyone knows that...we've had more injuries than any team in football the last 4 years and we still get into the NFC Championship game. Usually we're down at least 2 defensive linemen for the year by the middle of training camp (this year no exception).

Look at last year when Donovan went down and this team didn't miss a beat. If you're talking great coaches you have to include Andy.

I would think its fairly obvious over the years that without a nucleus of top talent, nobody is any good. Outside of that, the other two important things that make a good coach are,

1) Have a good organisation. Little is said of New Englands back room boys but they are the top class from top to bottom. In contrast, look at Cincy over the years.
2) have great coaches under you that can do a specific job, leaving you more time to organise.
