It has to do with the same idea that occured with Leon Lett a few years ago.

A&M touched the ball in the field of play NOT in the end zone then jumped on it in the end zone and were tackled thus a safety.

Remember Leon Lett touching that ball back on Thankgiving about 10 years ago and thus giving Miami possession when he fumbled it?

The A&M players should haver never touched the ball or at least not fumbled it into the end zone.

The Leon Lett play was somewhat different... the play made no sense, the kicker kicked the FG and hit his own players...I think the interpretation of the rule by the Refs is incorrect here...I won't be surprised if we hear later they blew this call...

Well they way taht they saw it, it was ruled correctly. But the ball did hit TEXAS first thus voiding the safety. But if you dont factor that in that it hit Texas, then it would be a safety

i missed part of it but if the rule is true, than it make sense. what they said was. tex tries extra point but it was blocked and defense attempted to run it back the other way( run it other way is 2 points) but got tackled in end zone, so it was 1 point safety. i never heard of it before, but was player trying to run it back the other way. i didnt see that

I always thought the rule in college for 1 point is when a player takes the fumble back the length of the field. I was shaking my head during the game when they called it.

The rule was called correctly. What made it confusing was the idiot announcer who kept saying the ball is dead, it can't be a safety. Then he really made himself look silly when he said they were not going for 2, not realizing that Tex A&M had picked up the ball and indeed was trying run it back for a 2 pt conversion. It does not matter who the ball hit, Tex or Tex A&M. A&M picked the ball up and started to run attempting for the 2 points. When that happens the rule is the same as if it was a regular play with the safety being 1 pt instead of 2. A&M then fumbled the ball back into their endzone, when they fell on it, the result of the play was a safety(1 pt) being rewarded to Texas.

On the replay I still didn't see him running it out...of course the rule makes sense IF the defense tries to score but in this case I don't think so...
