i downloaded the service pack update about 7 weeks ago. it seems like things havent been running like they used to.

one example is my aol music net.

everytime i want to go into it i get the blue screen of death and my computer restarts. i believe this has to do with my active x.

i thought about removing the service pack update but it tells me my norton security might not work properly if i do.

come on in computer experts and help out a hack.

appreciate any input.

p.s. i thought their was a forum in here for computer stuff.... i dont see it. i did a search on the topic and read some good stuff. i guess my main question is about removing it and what that will do to my norton.

thanks.

try this

go to http:// housecall.trendmicro.com scan your computer for free to check for a virus. I have norton and several other virus detection programs and I still had 32 viruses

good luck

For viruses, Apple is right, Trendmicro is far and away the best. However, I don't think you'll find this is a virus problem, Service Pack 2 is giving lots, lots of problems.... I'm looking into a fix but haven't found anything worthwhile yet, when I do I'll post it.

I downloaded it not long ago and things are fine for me so far. I was told that the un-instillation wasn't so smooth, but I haven't seen anything that has bothered me yet. I figure it is the patriot act update.

World Number One, your probably having a conflict with SP2 and your firewall, or maybe AOL's new built in security?

IF you have a seperate firewall you will have to either get rid of it, or go into the control panel, find the firewall icon from there you can turn the firewall within service pack2 off or change the setting so it doesn't interfere anymore..

General, you probaly only have the sp2 firewall and not a seperate firewall running at the same time?

do not download sp2! it slows down the machine tremendously. trust me! been doing computer work for quite some time, i own 5 machines, all of which are running seamlessly without sp2. recently bought a laptop loaded with sp2, thing was so slow. reinstalled windows with the correct service pack, and it flys.

MS released this update to cater to the people who are paranoid. if you surf the internet correctly you should have no problems. watch what you download, make sure you have an anti virus. otherwise sp2 does nothing but close your system down and slow its thinking.

Dr.Pepper is 100% correct... all sp2 does is update a few drivers and confuse the firewall you already have....

You should be fine. That is a default Microsoft warning that it is a possibility that you will have probems if certain files have been overwritten by a different version tha is in SP2. I have seen very few problems with uninstalling it.....which is more than I can say about installing it.

Software can be a SOB.

Most of us can only hope for a little luck in our dealings.
