Do I understand this correctly? If Syracuse beats Boston College today, Pittsburgh will make the BCS by representing the Big East Conference. Hard to believe if true.

Disgusting.. After VA-Tech and Miami vacated the conference its on par with the Mtn. West or WAC top to bottom. Cal had better not be looked over because of this, they would destroy any Big Least rep.

I think the Pitt QB Palko is a potential NFL pick....I have no problem with Pitt in a Bowl even though Syracuse is spanking my wallet at the moment.

Notre Dame would have to beat USC tonight for that situation (cal rose bowl) not to happen

From Espn.com:

<!-- end recap body text --><!-- END MAIN WRAPPER -->California, which only a week ago thought it had locked up a berth in the Rose Bowl, needs a win Dec. 4 at Southern Mississippi to fight off the Longhorns, who are fifth in the standings.

Texas or Cal. is much more deserving than Pitt. The Big East is by no means worthy of an automatic bid.

maybe things have changed, I mist admit i dont follow as closely as I used to, but it has always been Pac 10 champ VS big 10 champ. USC will win the pac 10 but they will be going to the title game..

So I guess if the pac 10 winner goes to another game the committee can pick anyone they want... Texas Michigan would be interesting

Big East automatic bid to BCS is a joke. But I think I have a solution:

What needs to happen is that the Big East is dropped as a BCS conference. But their automatic bid goes to the mid-major school that has the highest BCS ranking, Big East included. This year, Utah would get that automatic bid. Big East would still have a decent chance of making a BCS bid in upcoming years, but only if they had a top team deserving. This would quiet the controversy every year about the mid majors always being left out, as one would make it every year. This would make for some very interesting bowl games year in and year out, as the top mid-major every year would be gunning for a top program from a BCS conference.

I think this is the best solution, but would like to hear some opinions on it.

Yeah, it's crazy the way the bowl matchups are determined anymore.

Like your "Bush is a retard", very true.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me. A title game between the mid-major conferences to determine the representative in years where there is no clear-cut rep. would also be good.

What city in Iowa are you in? Lot of Iowa posters on the forum.

Grew up in the Bettendorf (Quad Cities), but currently go to school in Ames at Iowa State. However, I am a diehard Hawkeye fan, went to ISU because of the better Engineering program.

There are 6 automatic berths and two at large berths. As it currently stands, USC must win both against Notre Dame and next week against UCLA to secure a spot in the National Championship and thereby giving Cal a chance to represent the Pac 10 in the Rose Bowl. If the Trojans lose either game, they possibly could fall below Oklahoma and Auburn if those teams win the Big 12 Championship and SEC Championship respectively next week. It they lose, the Trojans would play in the Rose Bowl and Cal would fall out of the Top Four even with a win over Southern Mississippi and possibly be the odd team out as the ACC representative, Big East Representative, & Utah are in. Boise State at Number 7 could displace Texas or Cal.

these disputes will go on year after year until they go to a playoff format!!! what a joke to decide the biggest and most exposed collegiate sport by someones opinion. yet the ncaa mandates every other level of football be decided by playoffs. just amazes me.

As if this year in college football for us Nittany Lions couldn't get bad enough...now Shitt is in the BCS.

Well it will be worth watching them get destroyed on national television by a team that actually does belong there. Anything to see Walt Harris cry!
