I m going to play texas hold em tonight against the biggest group of squares one could ever imagine...Not huge stakes but should be able to win a couple of hundred or so..They will be drunk and baked and ready for the taking...I plan on being dead sober to increase my chances even more...I should be able to win just based on gambling sense alone....But to guarantee a victory I need some of the poker wizards on here to give me some help with startegy, rules,tricks.etc...

It will be much appreciated and will report back with results....Have a good day....THanks again....:suomi:

Pete,

sounds EXACTLY like what I have going on in a few hours. Playing with a group of 9 others (at least 6 of them are BAD poker players, dont know the other 3) Most if not all will be drunk, and I will be sober (other than a little smoke) Like you its not huge stakes but I sould also be able to pick up a couple of hundred. Not sure what advice I can give you other than to FOLD alot!

Good Luck!

Be sure to incorporate some solid check raising into your arsenal early on to set the tempo in your favor.

before the flop, raise like a manaic whenever your dealt a pair or AK AQ . if somebody re-raises you, re-raise em back.

re-evaluate the situation after the flop.

Drunk poker players are dangerous and if you do not have large stack one will eventually carry you out.

Drunks stay in hands and when they stay in hands they become dangerous

If you have large stack then you can beat them

if theyre drunk definatly get as many chips out as possible when it is 80% + you have the best hand. drunk guys will call with a pair of 5's thinking they will make some garbage set or a worthless 2 pair they dont even realize there is a flush or a straight on the board half the time.

do some splashing to keep them guessing and then go for the kill when you have great hands dont oversplash make sure you fold sorry cards or fold after flop when it looks fairly hopeless

everyone has there own style.......

since you said it is a bunch of chumps...... that can be dangerous at times.

my suggestion is when you have a hand you like and you bet example
ace/ queen
flop comes up 3q/5q/9d

make your bet (i would bet whatever the amount of the pot is )

do not check ...........sherman you hear this??????????/

then the turn card comes over whatever it is bet again
you have to be agressive

more times than not the other person will fold..

and there will bet times you get burned......

i love it when i know the guy i am up against has ace king and i have a pair of 5's and there is no ace king on board..

just go in there not a wildman . but be aggressive on your bets..

I think so called squares are the most dangerous, they stay in when they shouldnt, you cant get inside their head like you can a so called pro. they will win hands and be in hands they had zero business being in.

slick - you proably would clean my clock, really havent been at it long enough. i discovered the only way i play good is if im drunk and im trying to impress a chic. I have plenty of time to get better though.

Pete- just have a beer or two and use that sharp PRJ intuition you have been using to beat up on cris. just dont get hammered but actually 1-2 lite drinks will actually make you play better. (small amounts of alchohol can improve cognitive thinking) problem is most of us dont stop at 1-2!!

Hey boys thanks for the advice,,,,,,

Poker is not for PETEY JR ...I was the true definition of a square...I was down $ 60.00 dollars like 3 minutes after I sat down...I just couldnt fold...LOL...I am a very disciplined sports bettor but had ZERO restraint when I sat down.....When I start to lose at anything I get this feeling down my back and I want to shoot someone...I then proceeded to start to drink and things really picked up for me...lol...I couldnt believe I was losing to this crew..2 were fisherman, 1 was a ugly chick, bartender, and a construction workrer...I was the by far the worst player in the room at the start...So i had to leave about 40 mins after I got there so I could go home and bet the 3 rd qtr. of the Laker game...When I left I was down $85.00.....When I came home I checked the RX (obviously)lol and re read this thread and saw about folding alot..So i went back and proceeded to quickly win some money back....Anyways I lost 15.00 Dollars CDN so a liitle comeback was made..The big winner won $105.00CDN..lol..

This is a week of training for Petey JR...Next friday we play again.....It will be different....Next week though I might wear earplugs so I dont have to listen to non-sense like how KENO is beatable and this guy has a system ..blah blah.....And how GOVT lottery is awesome,,It drives me nuts......I proceed to try and tell them about takeout %, odds and other numerical facts but I dont think they took me too seriously when I was chasing the River the first 20 hands...lol....Next Week.....Next week...lol

I feel there are two rules of thumb when it comes poker:

Small stakes=Luck is the defining factor because even if you have AA you usually have to play against 6,7 or 8 hands to win.

Large stakes=Patience and only play with premium hands.

I ll thank-you now as well....I m looking for it on-line right now....

It was embarrasing a bit because I m kinda known as the sharp around town ( small town)...and I was betting like an idiot...I totally felt how lots of people feel when betting sports...I then stopped trying to play cards and I tried to play people which worked so so much better...They do some dumb ****...as did I though....

BOOKIE: I agree man LUCK is huge...
