ODU -18 vs. William & Mary...
These are TWO teams that I follow very closely as they are located less than 2 hours apart from one another...
Some may think this is a lot of points to lay, but this is a VERY GOOD ODU team playing AT HOME against a POOR William & Mary team...
Aside from the fact that ODU is much more talented at virtually every position and they go deep, there are THREE intangible factors involved tonight that lead me to believe ODU will win this game by no less than 25 points!!!
ODU'S LEADING SCORER'S FATHER (Dad of Isaiah Hunter) passed away earlier this week and ODU did something that may be unprecedented. The entire team (ALL the players and Coaches) got permission from the NCAA to JOIN Isaiah Hunter at his Father's funeral yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina...
This is a VERY CLOSE group of kids. Irving Hunter, the Father of their leading scorer, who died of Pancreatic Cancer at the young age of 40 something, was a fixture at all of the HOME games as he sat next to YOURS TRULY. He was very well admired and loved by the entire team...
While the COACH of ODU, Blaine Taylor, won't publicly admit it yet, because he told Isaiah Hunter to take the night off if he didn't feel up to playing, I have got to believe that ISAIAH HUNTER will be there tonight for his team just like the team was there for him yesterday and maybe more importantly because his Father wouldn't have wanted it any other way...
To say that ODU will be VERY FOCUSED tonight for their FIRST CONFERENCE GAME may be the biggest understatement that I have ever made on this forum. In fact, the players have already DEDICATED this game to their star GUARD...
The SECOND intangible factor that works out well for ODU is that William & Mary's ASSISTANT COACH RESIGNED this week for greener pastures elsewhere. Coach Ted Jeffries suddenly left William and Mary to take on a position to fund raise at UVA.
Lastly, since the two Schools are so close in proximity, they often have a decent turnout here. But you can forget about this tonight because they were all at a BIG FOOTBALL game they had today against Delaware...
