YOu have got to be kidding J~Man! Was anything said directly after that or before that statement? You sure it wasn't in reference to anything else? Seems as if he could put himself (job) in jeapordy with such a statement......

He said it as a joke Hache....But it was very obvious what he was getting at....

It was very early in the 4th after Levens ripped off a long run....He almost seemed aggravated as if Philly was running it up, even though they were running the ball...

Troy chimed in " they can't take a kneee with a whole quarter to go" The whole FOX team was upset all the star players were still in...

Even If Collinsworth and the crew had a wager pending I find it very un-professional to "air" that comment....it may have been an innocent side bet with a producer baiting him in the earpiece, or a legit wager at a book; the comment should have been saved for the drinks in the trailer or hotel lounge.

We all can tell when Berman has money on a game; only by his level of excitement, never a biased comment because of his wallet. I would love to hear Bob Costas' thoghts on this subject.

All of these guys gamble. Imagine how hard it would be if your job for 8-10 hours a day was to talk about and study the NFL. You'd gamble on it too... But we all do already :D

Now I did hear Chris' frustration after Philly kept going to the air with such a big lead. It slightly crossed my mind that he may have had a wager on Green Bay or somthing, but I missed the other comments. LOL.......that is funny, strange thing is though, those guys like that making a fortune probably bet pocket change!

Yeah ask ART from Ohio State or Pete from the REDS if making big bucks has you betting chump change! There are many addicted and compulsive gamblers that sports don't know about I'm sure!

Man I used to love the Diedorf/Michael comments on MNF. I remember a missed fg at the end of the game and Dierdorf's response "That kick went wide and under."

At least he acknowledges it. Everyone knows there would no way ABCMNF would last for the last twenty some years unless people were betting on the game.

I Think Al Michaels does a great job on MNF......I wonder what his screen name is? I know Bob Costas' screen name...not on this site or MW....he's a baseball poster...Anyway...I would bet Howard Cossell never bet on a game, or fight!

No one is even close to making more gambling comments than Bret Musburger

Gambling is a social hobby by many more than we will ever know. Bobby knight once said, if we only knew the extent of gambling we would be shocked. He wasn't making it up. He has many friends in this business and has insight to alot of their habits along with their comrades.

Costas

Costas has said on a few occasions that he got interested in the broadcasting business because his father was a compulsive sports gambler. Throughout his childhood his father would send him out to the car to listen to baseball games and get scores while his dad would watch whatever game was on tv. He would have to run in the house and give his dad updates every couple of innings.

Brent Musberger and Al Michaels routinely make references to sides and totals during their broadcasts. It would not suprise me in the least if they had action on a lot of the games they work. They are privy to pretty good info in the days leading up to the game.

Forbin you are correct.....Costas became a baseball fanatick during those years....he claims to have honed his broadcasting skills by turning down the volume on the Sat. Game of the week with Tony Kubek and Joe Garagiola; he then called his on play by play in his room.

This is a cool and true story....I was in St. Louis in 1993 after the Series was over, I was at Tony's on Market Street dining with the ex-wife; sitting at the table to our right was Joe Buck and his dad Jack, to the left was Stan Musial and his wife. Musial was a hoot, he did the nappkin trick where it turns into a bra. Across the room was the actor from Quantum Leap...I can't remember his name. Anyway, good eats in St. Louie...especially on the Hill.

I would guess at least 50% of viewers have some kind of monetary interest in the game and everyone knows it including TV execs. Fact is the TV networks acknowledge gambling with their so called experts from past....Jimmy "The Greek", Jimmy Kimmel...etc. What is the difference if Collinsworth said a comment in passing?

There is no such thing as a "comment in passing" on television, just ask Suzy Kobler about Toledo and Joe Namath about Suzy Kobler. BTW nice avatar, you must be the guy at the Elementary school that the cops are hunting. That was a Joke. G
