I saw this thread a few months back, but can't locate it now. When Pinnacle takes a liking to a side are they most likely to put that side with the heavy juice or with low or + juice? In other words when they offer a side at -140/+130 which side are they liking to cover? Pinnacle is amazing in their manipulation of #'s, just interested in seeing some opinions as to what is the side they're liking to cover.

When you see Pinnacle with a line like this

USC -3 +110
Oklahoma +3 -120

And the rest of the books have it at a flat 3, they like the side that has the heavy juice (OK in this case). They are begging people to take the plus juice.

I will gladly answer any more questions you have

Thanks Hitman, that makes sense. If that's true it looks like Pinnacle and Skybook are liking the Jags tonight.

The best example I've ever seen was in the NFL playoffs earlier this year. Pinnacle had:

Indy -3 -130
KC +3 +120

while the rest of the world had it at a flat 3 -110 either way. They didn't want to write any tickets on Indy they wanted all of the K/C action and they got it. At that time their limits were only 10k on sides. I bet the limit on KC for a scalp and the line only moved a penny after I made my play!

Very sharp

You need to change your saying below Hitman26. If you're scalping you're far from "the squarest of squares."

Best of luck Hitman. :drink:

I truly question this claim sometimes guys about Pinnacle always liking the side they lay more juice one. It could also be used vice~versa......

Take this line as used above for example by Hitman........
USC -3 +110
Oklahoma +3 -120

Ok, now, if they are as sharp as they we think they are, who's to say they dont TRULY like USC at -3 +110, but want to make people think Oklahoma is the play at -120 and actually want to pull more bettors in that direction, therefore pulling in even more juice in a game they felt would go to USC to begin with.....:icon_conf

Good question but let me tell you why they wouldn't do that. First off it all depends on the lines everywhere else. If the rest of the world has USC -3 -110 OKU +3 -110, and Pinny has USC -3 +110 and OK +3 -120, they aren't going to sucker anybody into betting OKL with them because why would they pay 10 cents more when they can bet it somewhere else minus 10. On the flip side all they are going to write is USC action becasue everybody would rather risk 100 to win 110 instead of vice versa.

Make sense?

There's two ways to look at that situation. I feel that Pinnacle wants the players to take the side with "more juice" so they get the bigger vigs when they collect the losses. Even more so when the player is enticed to buy the hook and lay even more juice, which a lot of squares end up doing on the trap plays.

Earlier today Pinn. had the Illinois/G-Town game at:

Ill -12 +133

G-Town +12 -143

Market line on the game seemed to be Ill. -10.5/11, I would guess Pinnacle is trying to lure you in on Ill and is liking the G-Town side. I'm interested in seeing some other opinions. :suomi:

They've been jerking a few of their numbers around today. I guess it must be a hobby of theirs when there aren't too many games on the board.

LOL I was thinking the same thing Halifax. They are probably seeing which way they can write more action, by leaving the original line and adjusting juice or using the traditional move the number for line changes.

Or they all stepped out for a movie and lunch and just let the computer do the adjusting.

I think K.C. only punted like once in that game as well. It was a great offensive showcase, or a horrid defensive one.

That line doesn't scream Pinny likes G-town to me. It's like betting an alternate line. They sometimes have NBA second halves 2 points off of everyone else. but juice is way different. They are good !

I agree Doug! It's not like the rest of the world had ILL -11.5 or -12. Same thing with the Kansas line right now. They are playing games on this light Thursday.

Yep, they have some time on their hands. I was wanting to use their scroll bars to see what the buy-back to market would be, but buying/selling of points wasn't available.
