First of all Id like to say that Ive read alot of informative posts here from some great posters and then of course some ridiculous posts that have no significance whatsoever. Im not sure where this one or any future posts from me will fit in but hopefully I can get an unbiased opinion from anyone reading this since BCN sports feels they are right and people I know feel that im right on this current matter.

Let me preface by saying that Ive seen bad lines at books before and have even called them to let them know. Also, BCN sports hung a total of 77 on a second half NBA game last week of which I did not bet into nor did I have time to call them to let them know of this bad line. Yesterday I saw a -260 to a +240 at BCN sports and took the dog online without even thinking it was a bad line. I got a ticket number on this wager about an hour or so before game time and I left the computer. Some time after the game was over I called BCN to find out why this wager was not graded. I was informed that an email was sent prior to the game notifying me of the cancellation of this wager. I suggested that they should have called to let me know of this decision as I dont think people sit around and read their emails all day long. BCN stands by their decision that the +240 was a bad line and that they did what they felt was necessary by emailing me of the cancellation and will not reconcile in any way as they feel that this is a lose , lose situation for them. If they honor the wager they lose 2400, if they dont honor it here I am posting about it.

I think there is a reason he left that part out.

but if the right team was the dog, and +240 was off then they should pay based on what the right line should have been +220 or so

The event was college basketball, maryland vs george washington money line. Right now pinnacle has portland U -268 to Idaho state +236. If someone mostly used pinnacle they wouldnt think a -260 to a +240 is that far off to warrant a cancellation. As I was shopping this line I did see alot of -260 to +220 and like I said, I saw the +240 and grabbed it without thinking it was a bad line. So as Noreaga pointed out, I to thought a reconciliation of paying off at +220 was reasonable, but that was denied as well.

poker, that's ridiculous. That's obviously not a bad line, not even close to it. Have you contacted SBR about this?

I assume you're pulling out of BCN?

Wow, I see BCN is a sponsor here. If this is true, then I would be sickened if the RX kept this book as a sponsor. To say this is unacceptable is an understatement.

Don't give up and don't accept any compromise. Good luck.

We will try and get a response from BCN. The player did contact me prior to this post. It's so hard to determine what a bad line should and should not be as there are no guidelines to follow. There are no standards in place for this. It boils down to the old standard rule "we reserve the right". The book did right by cancelling before the event and sending word to the player. I am not sure why BCN would not honor the correct line and pay it off using such. I have messaged the sportsbook and hope to have a reply soon.

If this true then +240 is not a bad line!

Thank you, everyone for your responses to this point.

3.9- When an obvious error, human or otherwise, is made on the posted line or the start of a contest all wagers placed at the time these errors were in effect will be deemed "no action" and the associated "stake" monies will be returned to the client.

This is the only rule on their site that could allow them to do what they have done with this wager. So then the keyword is "obvious" and I have yet to see an unbiased opinion state that this was an obvious error on the posted line.

On a 260 money line the take back should be around 220. That being said I still think they should honor the bet.

Would love to hear what BCN has to say. As it stands now they seem clearly in the wrong.

My experience....

I signed up for BCN, based on information from this site. I placed 3 bets on line for $800 each. They all won. 3 for 3.
Signed on the next day only to find my limit slashed to $100!

I have had my limits cut before, but never after just 3 bets. People do win on occasion. 3 bets can not be enough of a sample to profile someone. Not too sharp on their part. Anyway, that is their right, so I just decided to close account and move on.

That's pathetic. Sounds like Oasis, except I think it took 5 winners there. Offshore books have become truly pathetic en masse.

i have posted this in the past as one of the number one issues facing offshore right now.

I say the RX should have a baseline bad line policy. Define something its better than nothing. Based on past events of line variation between sportsbooks (Ive posted some in the past to start with). For a sportsbook to put up a banner here they must agree to this policy, and the players must agree to it also, no bitching if the play is defined a misline.

Just in the past 4 weeks I have had a wager (soccer) at +360 that was cancelled prior to the match but hours after the wager was confirmed (no phone call, no email) but a note on my account when you log in as it was a "mis line" was to be +260. Bet Royal (this bet was a loser)

And another (soccer) that was +176 that was a bad line and a cancel (no phone call, no email, no nothing) as it was to be +120 or so I guess based on other books at the time. This was a winner. 5 dimes. This is pathetic.

im betting soccer like crazy now from the soccer forum I dont know Squat aobut soccer so I find the highest line I can and bet it. Why wouldnt you?

2 things strike me as strange.

I suggested that they should have called to let me know of this decision as I dont think people sit around and read their emails all day long.
Sure you do, you are a scalper and sit in front of your screen all day long when there are games. Who is kidding who.

Secondly.

Had the game lost would you have been giving the money back to BCN even after receiving notice that there was no wager?

:D

Free roll for the player. The player wins he goes to the forums. The player loses he does an osterich.

The bet was cancelled before the game started and you were notified. Had it lost you would not have been charged.

Its that simple. IMHO anyways.

would help a lot if you posted using your real posting name instead of ghosting. Makes you look kinda scummy IMO.

Major,

ah, so I take it your position is that a book can cancel an accepted wager whenever it feels like it so long as it is done before the game? Let me guess...that right does not extend to the other side of the table to the player, now does it?

That's bullshit. IMHO anyways

If the book doesn't want to give such a "free roll" then don't cancel legit wagers. Simple.

And it makes no difference whether this guy was a scalper or not or whether he sits reading his emails all day. Any bettor ought to be able to place their wager and come back the next day expecting the game to be be graded appropriately. Bettors should not be required to sit by their e-mail or phone wondiering whether their wager may be cancelled and they'll need to replace it elsewhere. The onus is on the book, not the player and you're reaction to this, Major, is rather disturbing for watchdog forum owner/moderator.

All IMHO again.

D2bets. Are you Pokerface2? Just curious. Been doing this a long time and this is textbook ghosting/backing up the ghost 101 :)

If a book has a rule that they can cancel a bet and give notification before the games begins. Then thats the rule. Dont bet at books with that rule if you don't want it to happen.

Pretty simple stuff here

I can't believe I am agreeing with Russ on this. I would say they have the right to cancel any wager at any time for any reason (i.e. the infamous blanket statement) if it's clearly stated in the rules at their website. It should be stated there if they are going to do this.

The line being bad or not may or may not be relevant but if they did contact you prior to the start of the game they did their job. I wonder what they put up after they took down the 240? In any event I wouldn't play there much longer if a book can't handle a 220-240 swing. I think we've all seen books honor lines much worse than this. +7 vs -7 ok that's a bad line...220 to 240 makes you wonder about this book altogether.
