Police in Auburn Hills, Mich., were to have submitted results of their investigation into the Nov. 19 brawl at the end of the Detroit-Indiana game to prosecutors Monday and charges will be announced Wednesday, according to the Oakland County prosecutor's office.
Names have yet to be announced but Oakland County prosecutor David Gorcyca said last week that Indiana players Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson and David Harrison would be charged in the case, probably with misdemeanor assault. At least eight fans will be charged.
While charges won't be announced officially until Wednesday, the station, WDIV-TV, reported today that the players believed to be under scrutiny by police are Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson, Jermaine O'Neal, rookie center David Harrison and Anthony Johnson. All five are seen on videotape participating in the melee, which drew national attention to issues of sporting event security and athlete/spectator relations.
