How do you handle it? Do you just totally stay away from them because you know you can't be impartial? Do you cap them knowing that you know more about them than any other team in the league because you follow them religiously? I've always wondered how people deal with that. Sports Betting 101 says don't bet your favorite team because you're betting with your heart and not your head. Here's my problem:

I'm kind of a Philadelphia Eagles fan (just a little ;)). The Eagles are 19-4 ATS in the regular season since Week 6 of last year. They're 45-22-1 ATS over the last 4 years regular season and playoffs combined. What to do? I'm having a hard time staying away from numbers like that. ;)

Just wanting some feedback from other people about how they handle it.

Point well made. Record to back it up.

It is very hard for me to lay wood on the road in the NFL. Homedogs {used} to cover at lot...
The number and matchup looks about right to me this week.
No Early money "that i can see" there.
No Early $$ for favorite here. Home dog looks to have "No" chance........Hmmmmmmmm NFL=Never Figure League
Homedoggiee might be right??? JMO

NEVER bet on your favorite team...you will lose TWICE if they lose ..either bet against them small or STAY away

I try to still cap them most of the time. I hardly bet them though. Example tonight. Iowa St getting 9 v. Iowa. I would say Iowa St covers but will not bet against Iowa. I'm a Vikings fan in NFL and have probably only wagered on 4 or 5 games this year. Only loss was the Bears game this past weekend which was complete BS anyhow. Could've made good money on Iowa football this season but only bet 3 of those. Lost one. As far as betting on your Eagles, i wouldn't. I would enjoy their Ws. Might be too late to jump on them.

I disagree. If you like the number jump all over it. I don't bet Dallas Cowboys alot but just because I don't like the game but I do bet for and against them. I do in fact like them this week vs NO Saints.

I have bet for the Red Sox alot and against them TWICE. (went 2-0)
I believe a combined +650

Fishy's an Iowa fan....Shrinky an ODU fan...still think pros don't have favorites? Coach I'd classify them as pros. How many times has Fish said if he doesn't win he doesn't eat?

I do get your logic though. :103631605

JJ call me a square, I have made a bet on the Falcons every week...sometimes for/sometimes against...its all about knowing your team. I layed 1.5 on Bucs last week....everyone knew that game was going to be a tough one for Atlanta; NFC South HFA is probably the greatest except for Buffalo in the AFC.

Glacker Atlanta is not that good of a team and might be the worst 9-3 team in league history

depends what the team/sport is

as for the professional teams - i tend to stay away from them

but on the college level - i have paid off a lot of bills on the money i have made betting cal state fullerton games - especially the baseball team.

the way i see it - who knows more about CSUF?

some bookmaker who has never seen a game at goodwin field (where csuf plays its home baseball games) or me who attends 6-10 games a year and knows the team up and down. how much money did we make here this past CWS on this site betting on jason windsor as a dog because the books were clueless about him and made him a dog when he should have been a fave or pick at worst (does +180 in the last game against texass ring a bell - a game that should have been -110 both ways or even windsor the fave - yet the bookmakers were clueless and made windsor an almost $2 dog!)

same thing goes for hoops - where i can find out things about the team bookmakers don't know - and take advantage of.

It works both ways - as a big fan of any particular team I find that I have a sense for the teams my team cannot beat more so than the ones they can. In other words betting against your favorite teams imo can be more profitable than betting on them. The Bruins and Canadiens in hockey playoffs over the years is a good example.

As far as my betting on the Dolphins (my favorite team) this season, I stayed away early on. I played the under successfully a few times. I'll tell you something crazy though, I layed one of my biggest wagers down on the Rams over here against the Fins ealier in the season, and wouldn't you the Dolphins spanked them around for their 1st win. :icon_conf
