This is a place that I would LOVE to visit... I called and learned that the starting rate per night is of $350+ per night! :( I'll settle for staying at a nearby resort for now, but was curious to know whether anyone else here has been there. I know they recently opened, but worth asking as I'm sure the experience there must be unbelievable.

The View....

Very impresive Tico. Did you already considered Melia Conchal? I have been there and so far one of my favorites 5 star resorts in this country.

That's the kind of view I would like to take a picture of with a wide-format camera. That would make an excellent 24 X 30 print to hang in my living room.

Wow! What a sight.

quantumleap: What you see in the background there is the Gulf of Papagayo... If you've never visited this part of Costa Rica, you really ought to go. Round trip airfare from San Jose to Guanacaste (the province) runs about $130 with www.Natureair.com. The duration of the plane ride is only something like 30-35 minutes. If you drive there from San Jose, expect a 4-5 hour ride. It is a very scenic drive.

Azg04: Haven't been to Conchal, but I've heard it's nice.

That would seem to be in my price range as I would hope to sell enough prints to make up the cost of the plane ride and the hotel.

I was hoping to make it there before it got too warm but now it's looking like this time next year. Thanks for the info.

Stayed at that 4 seasons a few weeks ago. Incredible service and only 339 a night. I was quite impressed. The food was also awesome. At 339 really a good deal considering it is a 5 star resort and arguably the premier spot in central america.:103631605

Other than that view, what opportunities do they have there for landscape photography?

Thanks in advance.

Not 5 star, but a good 4 star and 200 approx a night and only about 1.5 hours from San Jose.

There are local rates for Tico's as well. If you have a driver(taxi etc) take you to the hotel, have them check in and sign you in on the room, they usually save 20-50% on most hotel rates.

Pre-arrange with driver, they are more than willing todo that. They will need to show thier local ID card to prove citizenship/residency.

Although there are nice hotels, there are allot of nice Inn's and smaller hotels along the coasts that are very nice (boutique hotels) and are near allot of good entertainment. A note that allot of the larger chains are away from the towns, they want you to spend your money in the hotel (food casino etc)

Most of the hotels and boutique hotels have packages for several nites as well, room/food/beverage etc... , yes even the Four Seasons....

have fun,

canuck

let me know what site you are selling your prints on, are they signed?

The few times I went there, the Tico rate was only $10 less than rack. However, Marriott has a "guaranteed best rate" program. Always check, www.travelocity.com, www.orbitz.com, and www.tripadvisor.com first and have them match either the rate or the package (breakfast, ocean view, etc). In true Tico fashion you will need to speak to management to have them match it.

Good question. IMO, there were several good spots for landscape photography. I am not an expert, but I think you will be impressed.:103631605
