They all say "it's not about the money" (or on occasion worse, "I have a family to feed") but seem to always sign for the top bidder....I remember in an interview a few years back someone asked AROD what was more important, winning or the money. He said RIGHT NOW "the money". Great answer! Sure there have been a few athletes who signed for less for various reasons but the majority folow the money. Would I? Possibly and probably but I wouldnt feed people some sh** about "not being about the money".

Latrell said that he "needed to put food on the table" and saw no reason to go all out.
In a round-about way he was being honest about being a greedy sack of dog crap.

brad radke said he'd like to end his career as a minnesota twin. he took less money than he was offered else where, and took a paycut , to re sign with the twins.

Professional golf is the best run sports organization in the country today ...

with the best retirement package for its members --- NOTHING EVEN CLOSE

Outside of the top names, most of the guys get very little in endorsements and dont make the cut, ya dont get paid ....

Outside of Daly, name a Pro Golfer in trouble with the law ...

The PGA Tour makes more charity contributions per year than any other sports organization ....

The PGA Tour is a breath of fresh air ...

Sherman: Tough to say, unless you are truly " there". I'm not J Giambi, or countless others. I'd like to think 25m instead of 40m, wouldn't matter much, I wouldn't really know unless I was in those shoes.

Many lottery winners ( for big bucks, like 100m+), don't do especially well, in life, after the windfall.

A point is realised eventually when money becomes irrelevant.

If I have only 200 m, instead of 400 m, how is my life different ?

Does the guy with 400 million drive a nicer car ?, get a better suite at whatever hotel, have a bigger yacht ?

Is his trophy wife twice as good as mine ? If Bill Gates has a trophy wife, is his trophy wife hundreds of times better looking than mine ?

If you are into trophy wives, your prize isn't going to matter much, for your bargain trophy will look the same as a man with 10X your wealth. Is Miss January 10X more ugly than Miss March ?

At some point, money becomes nothing more than a way of keeping score.

What possible difference does it make, if you have 200 million, or a billion dollars?

I'll answer my own question. The only difference would be if you do something positive with that kind of wealth, not selfish ! Some jocks have done so, to a degree.

Maybe you back research for some terrible disease, or something. Many things you could do.

Most people , gaining instant wealth can't cope with it. I think I'd be different. I'd keep a modest home, travel, but I'd leave a lot behind me, when I die, so I hope.

Doug,

Good points. I agree it can't make much difference after a point except to the extent you can help the world.

Sherman,

I think the reason they are rarely honest is that it costs them too much. They are public figures and so in their statements they have to feed the public the BS they want to hear. Of course they want more money, take the best offers etc. Let's be real...wouldn't any of us? I think the biggest cause of the world's problems are parents who try to raise their kids according to a cinderella-like illusion. Recognizing that it's a dog-eat-dog world out there and that nobody's a saint is painful at first but once you get over that you at least have a hope of getting somewhere and won't have to suffer a fate of repeatedly getting your illusions shattered day after day after day.
