blackjack specs / example: http://www.mindplay.biz/pdf/mp21_product.pdf

The gist of this is that a game table is computerized and wirelessly networked into the casino computers-- further: each & every chip, as well as all equipment-- in above case each and every card in the deck-- has its own RFID(radio frequency). Meaning that:

The casino knows the location of any card in / the exact composition of the deck, the exact playing history & total amount bet to the dollar for any player: any authorized employee from a computer or handheld can access this data.

It's marketed as facilitating rating/comping, as well as aiding loss prevention & thwarting cheating.

But what a pit would likely be most interested in utilizing this for would be-- not only for identifying shuffle trackers & card counters, but to simply shuffle whenever an unfavorable clump of cards and/or deck count came up. Theoretically this could be taken to the point of ONLY dealing when the count is unfavorable to the player.

Beautiful, ******* beautiful, ehh?!?!

It's only a matter of time before blackjack is completely ruined.
This will mean the job is a little more stressful for the dealer. and that the proffesional player has absolutely zero chance of not being caught.

This would be cheating according to Nevada regulations since the procedure would eliminate the "natural run of the cards" or some basically equivalent language in the regulations.

on the flip side, now is never a better time to pull an inside job.

all you need is someone to radio hit or stay and the bet size to your watch or something.

A few casinos have used it for this purpose and have already been sued. There is no regulation against shuffling when the count is favorable, despite the obvious implications of changing the rules and payout structure of the game. The casinos are merely being both sued and investigated by Gaming because the regulations are written prohibiting using any computerized device for a game and the rules don't specifically say the house is exempt from this. Problem is the house will come up with a hundred reasons why they should be allowed these machines and use them, but promise not to shuffle up when the game gets positive.

The machines are so efficient forget about ever counting cards effectively in the future if the house has these "intelligent" tables. The software being written right now can spot a counter in about 15-25 hands of game play. In 30 hands of being a "big player" it will spot you as well, because the chances of playing only a positive count 30 hands in a row is very rare and the casino will quickly suspect you with the help of the software.

Even though it has the benefit of spotting counters, in reality most of the value for the tables is in effectively comping players. If you are a lousy player, the system recognizes that and comps you well. If you are a basic strategy player using some basic counting principles, you will also be spotted and get few to no comps, even if you play black chips. From a casino management standpoint this is far more important than backing off a counter here and there because they are well aware that thousands of dollars are spent getting and keeping players that will add virtually nothing to the bottom line. On the other hand there are plenty of players that subtly, but consistently, play badly and are the types of players a casino wants to attract and maintain and will comp aggressively to these ends.
