There are nights in one's betting career that are unforgettable. Mine was more like a fork in the road, one which led me out of gambling as a profession. The game that changed everything was the 1994 Orange Bowl.

Had some success wagering over the past ten years recreationally, but I could not imagine doing it for a living. Way to much stress and self doubt!:nono5:

another moral of the story is even when you win big, gambling can still suck sometimes and 1 game can feel like it took a few years off your life

I don't think a W or a L mattered for you.

Your excellent article summed it up. This wasn't supposed to be your future. Deep down, subconsciously you may have overbet that game just to get a resolution.

Ps. You could have covered some part of your position with a spread bet, right? On an overbet like that, living in square city, it would have been a slam dunk to find a rogue line point spread line on the Huskers. The fact you didn't pursue that would lead me to think you were ready to 'get out' of the business.

Could have been, but if so was very subconscious. It was really one of those things where I was in a total groove from one perspective, but surely the stress was there and it all came to the surface. It was a sign even someone that tried to make sure he didn't succumb to the typical attitude of a casino customer did just that. Lost my focus on the "real world" way too easily. As most gamblers do I could stop looking at bets as non-gambling items, such as a $1000 bet could be a weeks cruise, but that night when I thought about the car I was clearly lost.

I did think about middling or taking down some risk, but that being a high ML game the takeback was too low. Further for the 30 minutes until the game started I started convincing myself it would be an easy win. Only during the game as it unfolded did it really get the best of me.

Merely a cautionary tale, don't lose perspective no matter how good or bad you are running. There are good reasons to set up a plan of attack and even better reasons not to deviate from it.

So the bottom line was you bet 21,000 to win 5,000? if i read your lines and bets right thats what it ended up being...

If you wanted to win 5,000 why not have looked at something like less risk like the spread (which Nebraska must have covered at +money and only losing by 2).

Very similar to my bet on Dallas ML in Superbowl XXX, they won by 10, but that game about gave me a heart attack, 6000 to win like 2000 or something like that.
