If the Dictators could find a way to tax this 1.25 Billion dollars and stop the people who gamble from playing the system so they wouldn't have to pay taxes I am sure America would say ok.

The fact is they can't get their hands on the money and it pisses them off.

I agree with that JJ. And if the speedometer in my old car is anywhere near correct, MOST Americans break the law everyday. If I drive the speed limit, I could be construed as causing a highway problem. It's DAMN SCARY to me. Just as those that don't bet would like to impose their will on me --not to either.

Most laws are derived based on political considerations not practical facts.

Most Americans do not bet on sports. But the ones that do drive an entire market of sports channels, pay per view packages and advertising revenues. Additionally they create an excitement and an air of importance to sporting events that sparks interest in those that do not bet. The rise of the popularity of sports in this country mirrors the rise in sports betting. That is not a coincidence. But despite its positive effects on so many areas of society, political considerations make it extremely unlikely that we will ever see a full legalization of sports betting.

I'll never understand it myself. It's ok to play the lottery something that 99.9% of the playing public will be lifetime losers at is okay but sports betting is morally wrong. In my homestate, the city i live in lost a vote to have riverboat casinos because people in the rural areas decided that Jesus don't like casinos.
