Nets get Vince Carter in 4-player deal

In a move that could keep Jason Kidd happy, the Nets acquired Vince Carter today in a blockbuster five-player deal, several league sources told the Daily News.

In exchange for the popular high-flying All Star, the Nets are sending Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, Eric Williams and two first-round picks to the Raptors in a deal that will be announced later today. The two first-round picks - from Denver and Philadelphia — were acquired in the Kenyon Martin trade.

The trade gives the Nets a scorer and one of the most popular players in the league. Kidd, who wanted to be traded after Martin was dealt to Denver in the offseason, now has two of the best finishers in the game to run with in Richard Jefferson and Carter. The Raptors, who play the Nets on Sunday, have been trying to deal Carter and the Knicks were one of several teams trying to acquire the All Star.

The trade is pending on all players involved passing physicals. Carter is currently on the injured list with a strained left Achilles.

Mourning has missed the last three games due to minor injuries.

Plus the league still has to approve the deal (a formality).

Could be a fun team to watch, although kidd doesn't seem to be his normal self so far, although conditioning is probably the biggest reason.

Why would Toronto want Mourning??? That guy is lucky to even be alive, let alone playing basketball, he can't have many more games left in him.

Good move by the Raptors... he wore out his welcome in T.O.

Hopefully he doesn't forget his mom behind. New Jerseys gonna love her and her meddling ways. Thank god I won't have to watch this guy whining game in and game out. You'd think Tonya Harding was in the building the way this guy is always on the floor clutching at some part of his body. WIMP!

Morning had the nerve to cry about the team's situation after the Nets paid him while he was home sick. His contract was a big reason they were strapped. Now he gets to become a Canadian and miss the playoffs. Its nice to see that he is healthy but this should put him in his place. I would take +110 that he retires again.

I can think of alot things worse than becoming a Canadian, but that opens up a new can of worms. I can understand your point that he may be ungrateful, hell we experienced the same thing up here with Al Leiter during his DL days with blisters on his fingers, as soon as he was healthy and ready to pitch he opted out for a new team. Mourning will like it here in T.O. and with the sad state of the division the Raps are in I wouldn't rule out the playoffs, its a longshot but I wouldn't rule it out.

That was not a knock towards Canada in general but in the world of basketball it is like bobbsledding in Jamaica. Players are paid quite a bit and should deal with most of whatever comes their way including playing the best they can with the team they are on. However, being sent to a different country is one gripe you can understand.

Big mistake, he is so overrated
You got that right JJ. Amazing the T~Mac, his cousin, once played in his shadow at Toronot, and now there is no comparison between the 2. Nets need big men, not another guar/small forward. Should of never let Kenyon Martin get away......

Bill I do not quite understand what you meant by saying "in the world of basketball it is like bobbsledding in Jamaica".

If you're referring to the weather Minny, Bost, NJ, NY fail to differ much in terms of climate.

I agree with JJ Vince is VERY overrated. Raptors will do much better with him gone.
