There is NO logical explanation, and it's just another example of why the NFL is BULLSHIT (and I didn't have $$ on this game).

Three blind guys with 7 1/2, see how they run.

There are several reasons not to go for the field goal there. I'd say 80% of pro coaches would have done the same thing BB did, he was trying to win the game not cover the spread. All people getting 7 1/2 would have tried the field goal. All people betting over 22 1/2 for the second half would have tried to score at the end. Baltimore did go home with 2 timeouts in their pocket. Just an excuse to try and score if Indy wanted to. At least to take a shot on first down. But no, Tony Dungee does the right thing. It doesn't matter that people have bet three dimes on the over. It dosen't matter that they scored 21 points in the half with 12 minutes to go in the game, that some people are going to take a bad beat. That Vanderjackoff picks that field goal to miss. What are these coaches thinking about.

In this case, Jimmycheese is completely wrong...

I had Indy, and I still realize it was the wrong move...it worked for me, but it was the wrong play....

And no, most coaches would not have gone for that with that much time left, and 2 time outs left......

Had it been 4th down at the 1, maybe, but 4th and 3 from the 28, yes most coaches would have went for the 3 that they had to have...

it has nothing to do with the coach trying to win, rather than cover the spread, he wasnt gonna win without that fg anyway....

Had the spread been 4.5, and baltimore was down 7 with 3 minutes to go, and they kick a fg, then i would say coach was playing to cover, not win..

But he WAS DOWN 10 POINTS, he had to have a td, and a fg....your chances are much better to make a fg there, then a conversion, not to mention, if u get the points that soon, u can still kick off, and depend our your league leading defense to get the ball back.....

I just woke up waiting for this thread. The genius, Billick, proved again how low his IQ is. The FG is a must. Let's get the first down so we can get six (maybe) with 15 seconds left. I'm just sick of these high paid losers. Oh yeah, I had FG over 43.5 yds but that's besides the point. You've got to get the game down to one score.

I can't remember game, 15-17 years ago, a coach (NCAA) attempted a 40 yd Fg on fisrt down with a minute left and his team down 11. With no time outs, his explanation was we needed two scores and to go for a TD would probably chew up most of remaining time. The FG was blocked thwarting his startegy completely.

I completely disagree with all of you. Billick was 2-2 on forth down tries, including a 4th and 3 from the Indy 11 when they were down 17 with about 9 min. to go. A lot of coaches would have took the three then, particularly since the points were already on the board. But he correctly went for it because you don't get that many opportunities to score touchdowns. Now you have another forth and 3 with about 1.30 left in the game and your down ten points. Your kicker is no slam dunk to make a 46 yard field goal and you need a Touchdown some time in the next 90 seconds. You have to go for it, hope you make it, get the onsides and then the chance at another 46 yarder or better to tie.

Here's how to tell if a call is the right one: if it works he's a genius, if it doesn't he's an idiot. That is what is known as results oriented analysis.

It didn't worked but it was the right move.

Now,Tony Dungee not running a play on first down when they were on the 5 and a lot of people (who have to go to their skinking jobs at eight AM) had bet considerable money on the 2nd half over. That makes no sense at all.

Jimmy- You're wrong on both counts. Billick should have attempted the field goal on fourth and three. They need two scores so you have to get the field goal eventually.

At the end of the game, the right thing to do was take a knee for two plays at the four yard line with a minute to go. In that spot, they're up ten points and the Ravens didn't use any timeouts to stop the clock. Now, if the Ravens had stopped the clock, then you let Manning drop back and try to tie the record.

I played over 3.5 Fg's for game and lost. No biggie. You got to expect these kind of things in NFL. We see it weekly.

You guys should go apply for head coaching jobs in the NFL. With all your infinite wisdom and experience... You could take the jobs of coaches like Billick and Dungy no problem.

Did everyone miss Stover's previous FG attempt? The one he kicked into Bennie Anderson's head. It would have been a 45 yard FG for Stover. The long snapper, Joe Maese didn't have the best snap on the previous kick. Maese was out last week with an injury and maybe Billick had no confidence in him. That is not an easy FG for Stover. It's different if it is a chip shot. No one is saying anything about the play 10 minutes earlier when he took the 3 points off the board, went for it on 4th and 3, and Heap caught the TD. It was the right decision at the end but Boller made a bad throw. I can hear the bashing now if he attempted the FG and it was missed.

I hear you Jack...I wouldn't have second guess a missed FG, I just believe it was the best shot there...I didn't have money on it...
