Green Doberman News- Greg Raymer, the 2004 WSOP Champion, nearly lost more than his bracelet last week at the Bellagio. Two armed men tried to kidnap and rob the portly man last week at the Bellagio.
Raymer, who was in town for the Bellagio's Five Diamond Classic, was returning to his room after playing a cash game in the resort's poker room when two armed men approached him. The men, one of whom was identified as Deen Cassin of Las Vegas, attempted to abduct Raymer and rob him. Bellagio security reportedly stated that Raymer had a large sum of cash on him.
Cassin, described as a "wannabe" high stakes poker player, is wanted by Las Vegas Metro Police. The other assailant was not identified. Raymer reportedly successful fought off the 5'8, 160 pound Cassin before the suspects fled the scene.

While at the Nugget I wondered about this. I seen guys carrying around several $500 chips and it was pretty dead in the room area where I stayed. Seemed like an easy position of attack by a thief.

Doyle has been robbed countless times, including once not that long ago at his house, followed home from a casino. Robbing someone in a hotel is rather dumb, you will be spotted by a camera at some point. While getting an escort sounds good think about it. Everyone will know you have something to protect. Most poker pros do it very smart. They leave playing money in deposit boxes at the casinos and only take with them walking around cash most days. If they do want to take out a large sum they come at a time they aren't playing so people looking at stacks don't know what they have and usually bring along a few trusted friends.

Amen, Bill

If I won a large amount I always had it boxed; I also love Caesars Debit Card, you can cash out and get a check anytime.

I see this has finally hit the papers, only 8 days after I reported it. Pretty impressive investigative journalism there.:suomi:

I agree GD. My buddy started writing for the RJ and told me a lot of people that are just "passing through" are working there. He mentioned that Rod Smith, the Gaming editor, doesn't even gamble or know anything beyond what he is told about it. How can you be gaming editor, the guy who gives out assignments on what to cover, when you have no knowledge of the subject?

Good reporting GD. The LVRJ probably did not want to report it because it looks bad for the city. They finally reported it after word got out to the mainstream press. Many, many robberies, rapes, and suicides happen in the strip casino's that never get reported by the local news. Don't want to scare the suckers that come here to deposit their money.
