here in costa rica, i have the latin america feed on directv, which automatically qualifies me for the worst possible versions of espn and espn2. so to my surprise when something is on in english, it's the wsop with jackass moneymaker and his glasses that haven't been cool since the 90's

i can't stand the announcers... The worst announcer is that lady Pam Ward who did the Fresno game... She usually does the ESPN2 noon game.. boy is she terrible, plus I always lose the game she does...

until people stop watching!

espn is in the ratings "business" and as long as people watch - they will show it. also - why not show it - they own the rights to it - so in essence - it is "free programming" to fill time. as hot as poker is right now - they show it - people watch - so why not keep showing it!

They have limited rights to the older shows, but unlimited rights to the last two years. Just how the contracts were written out and probably some greed as I think the older ones rarely being show boosts the sales of the tapes/DVDs of them.

Notice how the WSOP is on all the time and the World's Strongest Man has fallen out of favor. Just remember what the alternatives are. IMO, they should show that Hawaiian exercise chic, Kiana I think it is. How watching that girl bend over and lift can't get great ratings is beyond me...

How idiotic to air the wsop 8 months after it finished!

I wonder who won. LOL

The only way it would be even remotely entertaining, is if they aired the wsop live.

They can't, the players don't trust the cameras not to be hacked. Supposedly the feeds for those card-view cameras stay just on digital film and are not viewed by anyone until the tournament is concluded. If they don't show the cards, the ratings will plummet. Anyone that has watched tournaments in person know they are total borefests unless you have some stake in a player. Hard to learn anything from a distance and they move incredibly slow compared to the TV versions which are heavily edited for content.

It's interesting ! I'll watch it ( WSOP) once ! I don't know if top players want bluffs revealed, but that's the price. Negreanu bluffs out Hellmuth, Phil sees it later. part of the price. Danny doesn't want Phil to know he bluffed him, but it builds the game, overall.

I agree only watch it once, and it's biased, ESPN shows the hands when the bluff worked, and when top players catch the miracle card. It's not good TV to show the boring grind of what is reality. It provides false expectations to the masses. All the better for sharp, and semi-sharp players. It's a cash cow if you realise this. Thank ESPN.

I disagree with the ratings plummeting if the viewers can't see the hole cards.

I think that the live aspect would overcome any disadvantages.

ONe thing to keep in mind when watching te 2003 and 2004 world series is that ESPN faked many hands. One hand I'm sure you all remember, remember when Tony D folded to Helmuths raise when Phil had 77, and Tony D had JT with trip 10s on the flop? That hand was fabricated. If you freezeframe it, you can see it is spliced. There are also many other hands, many pros said that ESPN would call them and ask them waht they had(becasue apparently there were a few cameras strolling around just seeing flops), and ESPN would call the players later and ask them what they had. Many times the players couldnt remember.

That's interesting brother. They must be real good players if they recall their hands that well.

I ask how many hands a WSOP plays before winning. I know I'm dead money against these guys. To recall hole cards on an ordinary hand, I can't buy that !

Poker players will look you in the eye thru their shades and lie, Sorry I don't buy it .

Doug- I said that the players COULDNT remember on many occasions, so ESPN faked many hands.

Why is it needed to fake a hand ? Is filming suspect ? I'll let this go !
