Winning $10,000 from a gambling contest should be a great moment. However, as a lucky winner called “Assassin” is finding out, there is more to it than just worrying about the rollover.

I have found it is senseless to talk gambling with family. I am lucky that I can keep to myself and do what I want without any questions from the family really, except the holiday gatherings when everyone wants to know who you are playing so that they can give you chit if you lose.

Wild Bill

First of all great subject as it relates to most of us one way or another.

Your writeup is very "dead on" and your advise is a huge help to someone just starting out as well as "hard headed" veterans like myself. I read 5x so hopefully something will sink in. lol

I must say I think it really helped that I took my wife to the RX bash this year, she seems to have a better understanding about what we all do..and everyone she met presented themselves as perfect gentlemen.

Thanks again

good read.

When I starter 2 years ago I had a defined bankroll. At the end of my season (August to August) I had a 200% profit and took a break until the Superbowl.

This year my bankroll was just the winnings from last year (that 200%) and I put my original capital aside (actually used to temorarily pay down my home equity line as that was the highest return while maintianing liquidity).

I'm up again this year and have again pulled out my original bankroll and set it aside. I have "chosen" to take out some additional for fun family purposes. Basically spent a little more on our summer vacation and upgraded a trip to San Fran for our anniversary.

BUt yes, keeping the funds seperate is key.

Can't wait until my skybook account is funded.

I think that not keeping a separate bankroll for gambling along with not keeping accurate records are two of the many reasons most lose. I suspect many do not have separate bankrolls because deep inside they don't want to know how they do. It is the old "what you don't know won't hurt you" idea.
