Nothing ever like this, I think they have not even got to villages and other remote areas that are just gone all together.

Does anyone know how far this thing actually stretched??

Forget all the wasted money in Iraq, let our heros now go to Asia and send all the billions to these countries where people like us and let Iraq just crumble and they all can go kill each other.

Great post JJ. Guys like Bush and GameFarce do not support sending aid to "brown or yellow" people, but I hope the real Americans will prevail and show unprecedented support and compassion.

Everyone should see the before and after pictures of entire cities. It is absolutely sickening.

Hey JJ , Bush would never send the troops over there because of the lack of oil in the region. I bet Chaney is licking his chops though at the idea of sending some contracting work that way.

greatest natural disaster, maybe

The Holocaust will be tough to "bump" out of #1

might also put the 2 A-bombs we dropped on Japan above this, too - not so much for the number of people it killed - but what it did to those who lived - f****d up a lot of people's insides leading to deformed kids and all

regardless - this is pure tragedy - the kind we normally only see in schlocky hollywood "disaster" movies - not the stuff that is "real"

Actually the flood Noah endured was the greatest disaster but this is certainly a horrific event.

Winky,

The Holocaust was not number 1. The USSR under Stalin murdered over 60 million, and even Red China knocked off over 35 million. Hitler's total killings were "only" 20.9 million. For more details, see:

http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM

Of course of these three mass-murdering regimes, Hitler's got about 99% of the media attention, so it's no wonder many think it was #1. But if you consider the ethnical representations in the media industry, the reason for the distortion becomes a lot clearer.

There is an article in the local paper here about other NATURAL disasters that were greater than this one aswell.....

$$$ wise this TSUNAMI is expected to cost 14 BILLION dollars.....

Hurricane ANDREW in 1992 cost 27 BILLION dollars.... (of course no where near the life was lost).....

In 1556 an earthquaque in CHINA killed 1 million people.....

In 1976 an earthquake in CHINA killed 300 000 to 600 000 people.....

When will it next erupt?
Scientist have discovered that the ground in Yellowstone if 74cm higher than in was in 1923 - indicating a massive swelling underneath the park. The reservoir is filling with magma at an alarming rate. The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was more than 640,000 years ago - we are overdue for annihilation.

What would be the effect of an eruption?
Immediately before the eruption, there would be large earthquakes in the Yellowstone region. The ground would swell further with most of Yellowstone being uplifted. One earthquake would finally break the layer of rock that holds the magma in - and all the pressure the Earth can build up in 640,000 years would be unleashed in a cataclysmic event.

Magma would be flung 50 kilometres into the atmosphere. Within a thousand kilometres virtually all life would be killed by falling ash, lava flows and the sheer explosive force of the eruption. Volcanic ash would coat places as far away as Iowa and the Gulf of Mexico. One thousand cubic kilometres of lava would pour out of the volcano, enough to coat the whole of the USA with a layer 5 inches thick. The explosion would have a force 2,500 times that of Mount St. Helens. It would be the loudest noise heard by man for 75,000 years, the time of the last super volcano eruption. Within minutes of the eruption tens of thousands would be dead.

The long-term effects would be even more devastating. The thousands of cubic kilometres of ash that would shoot into the atmosphere could block out light from the sun, making global temperatures plummet. This is called a nuclear winter. As during the Sumatra eruption a large percentage of the world's plant life would be killed by the ash and drop in temperature. Also, virtually the entire of the grain harvest of the Great Plains would disappear in hours, as it would be coated in ash. Similar effects around the world would cause massive food shortages. If the temperatures plummet by the 21 degrees they did after the Sumatra eruption the Yellowstone super volcano eruption could truly be an extinction level event.

I hope that the govt people over there will install a warning system after this mess. How many deaths does it take to install a much needed warning system. If a warning system was in place people could have gone inland. Without a warning system they are just sitting ducks.

Every wonder why a hurricane that hits Haiti kills thousands but that same hurricane hits the U.S and only causes 15 deaths?

I feel really sorry for all who have died.

G-D rest their souls.
