Wide receiver Eric Moulds will do anything to help the Buffalo Bills make it to the playoffs. That includes calling friends on other teams.
Moulds spoke with Indianapolis wide receiver Marvin Harrison on Wednesday night about the Colts' game at Denver on Sunday. The game is meaningless to the Colts, who have secured the third seed in the AFC. But an Indy win would eliminate the Broncos and put the Bills in the playoffs, assuming the Bills beat Pittsburgh.
"Marvin said that he and (quarterback) Peyton Manning may only play about a quarter," Moulds said. "But I was trying to tell him to ask (coach) Tony Dungy to let them play at least a half and let Peyton try to add to his touchdown record. Marvin said he would mention it to coach Dungy. Hopefully those guys will go out to Denver and play well."
Moulds said he hasn't contacted St. Louis receivers Isaac Bruce or Torry Holt because the Rams need Sunday's game against the New York Jets as much as the Jets do.
"But I might call those guys just to give them some encouragement," Moulds said.
Not everyone in the Bills' locker room is so sure about the Rams' chances Sunday. Color free safety Troy Vincent skeptical after watching St. Louis look unimpressive in a 20-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, who sat most of their key players the majority of the Monday night game.
"Hmmm. I don't know," Vincent said. "Not as sharp as I would have liked. They played their starters the entire game and Philly was bringing practice squad players on the field, and they were competing. But you hope they play well, and they're at home."
Regardless of what happens in Denver and St. Louis, Moulds said the Bills have to focus on beating Pittsburgh and nothing else.
"We can't control what happens on the outside, but we can control what happens on our field," he said. "That's the way we've been approaching things. Anything else that happens around the league will take care of itself."
