If Gooden got elected, how would they cast the statue with a straw to his nose?

Seriously, I was a big Ryno fan, but I thought Dawson was a more complete player. It's just people remember the limping, one-legged Hawk of his late years.

Something to consider for starting pitchers of the future:
After Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson retire there wont be any 300 game winners for years to come. Today, starters go six innings and give up four runs...not HOF material.

I want a good laugh JJ - why doesn't he deserve the HOF.

hey F/W , i asked you a question in another thread yesterday . dont think you saw it.

you were talking about seeing rison play.

my questions was did you ever see quincy turner or antoine joubert play in high school ? i grew in battle creek and caught a few of their games. legends in high school .

dont mean to highjack this thread ..

I just heard some good trivia for the future. Wade Boggs is the first guy to hit a home run for his 3000th. hit on August 7th. 1999 for the DRays off Cleveland's Chris Haney.

Note. The day before Tony Gywnn hit #3000 with a single for the Padres. Gywnn retired in 2001 and was not eligible this year.

Andre Dawson is deserving...

Sandberg I guess in all honesty I didn't see him play enough....numbers are borderline IMO...

Here's where I think the problem is...I would take Jim Rice or Dawson before Sandberg any day of the week! :nono5:

Kind of puzzled why Rice never got more support. I think Dawson will fall short because of injuries. Dawson could do more than Rice but those injuries...

Journey - take a look at Rynos numbers vs other 2nd basemen. No debate here.

Yes FW, Sandberg clearly at or near the top of 2nd baseman....I was just mentioning how I would take Rice or Hawk over Ryno, should position be that much of a factor?

I am starting to wonder about Robbie Alomar...This guy has fallen off the table, at one point it looked like he may rack up 3500 hits....now could he even miss the HOF...

sanberg played in a joke of a park

fly balls were hrs, Soriano right now is better than Sanny

Secondly Sanny could not touch Kent either

Wind blows in more than out at WF. WF also has the longest distances down the lines to go with the shortest power alleys so that evens out. Soriano and Kents defense are not comparable to Sandberg. How about a second basemen from his era - name a better one. Heck Soriano doesn't play 2nd anymore, wasn't he in the outfield last year?

Journey - Alomar is a tough call. He could have one last hurrah with the Cards this year though.

It does look like the relief pitchers got some respect on this ballot. I don't think Sutter deserves HOF. I do think Gossage may slide in soon.

I think Sandberg should be in the Hall of Fame, because he is one of the best fielding 2nd basemans ever to play the game.

FairWarning the thing is Sanny was great then but how could he do now or would he be 250, 14hrs, 64 rbi's

Seems like many guys like Sanny now, yes maybe in his time he deserves to get in

When we look back though he will not be in top 50 in 20 years from now, too many great hispanics coming in to league

Good Luck Guy

I agree with last post JJ. But you can only judge him on past players, not tomorrows stars.

Me thinks when this Balco thing comes out in the wash, most all of the numbers from mid-90's on will be worthless.
