Let him put in on display for the fans.........and the ball can always remain his and he can do what he pleases with it.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

I agree. Let the fans see it, but at the end of the day, when the guy retires he should be able to bring the ball to his house, or sell it, or whatever he wants. Just as long as he doesn't give it to jjgold....gold will end up trading it in to pay off his debts, and he'll be giving fellatio to 75-year old men again before you can say Jack Robinson.

He should do what he wants with the ball. MLB says it is his to keep. I hope the Sox don't make a mess out of this situation.

i've spoken to a few ball players who caught the last out of a world series - college and mlb

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM said THEY STILL have the ball

i do think the ball should be put on display at the stadium/team offices for all to see - but i can see doug's point here

as we all know - money talk$ and you-know-what walk$. if the $awx want the ball back - they know there are way$ to get the ball back and they have the mean$ of getting it done

I wonder what people would say if in such a sitution a 2nd baseman ran to 1st to get the out instead of throwing it, so that he could keep the ball. Watch, with this in mind, it'll happen someday.

I dont really care if he gets to keep the ball or not, but the fact is the guy was a red sock (ha) for only half a season and really has no credibility. And then he claims he went "to hell and back" this season and deserves it. Bull **** Dougie. You badmouthed your coach in Mn and showed yourself to be an average hitting first baseman and had to get traded. You don't deserve much credit for the world series and definitely dont deserve the ball. :)

After 86 years of heartache that ball belongs to the fans of Boston.

the greedy loser sox orginazation doesnt know the meaning of loyality so why should doug? let men-cave-itch keep the ball. tell greedy henry and theo to pay up and then we'll talk. he has to keep it. thats a smart jewish 1bman rock'n the beanie in the winter time.

the sox owners have stiffed evryone, at least men-cave-itch has a chance to recoup whats his in terms of money.

Rob it's not about the owners. It is about the fans. The fans should be able to go to look at that ball. Take their kids to the park and show them the ball that made history.

Perhaps it was just the way Doug went about handling the whole situation. In his remarks he seemed both pompous and selfish, certainly not qualities of a team player.

Cut the bullshit about history. The guy has a right to keep the ball. If The Sox wanted it that bad, they should have made sure to get it. No one thought of it but him so they are mad because he outsmarted them.

rob - is there a reason you commented this guy is "jewish?" hope you don't think that has any relevancy to his intent to keep the baseball.

And thats why they play the game.

Who wants to go look at a ball anyway. Whats the fuss about? Symbolic? It was a groundout. Has to be more meaningful balls used in that series?.?.?

I know I'll never see that ball no matter where its held or who "owns" it.

Had I been playing first that game, that ball would have been launched into the stands outta excitement, along with the jersey, hat and glove. Players make enough money not to please the fans with suviniers(sp).

Is it really that important that you take your kids to look at a baseball? I mean aren't the memories and the stories worth much more than an inanimate object? People place way too much value on things such as this.
