Clemson struggles against Wake Forest
COMPILED BY DAN COLLINS
• Clemson has beaten Wake Forest once in the past six seasons, and has a 1-11 record against the Deacons since Coach Rick Barnes departed the Tigers program for Texas after the 1997-98 season. With the Tigers scheduled to play Wake Forest on Saturday in Littlejohn Coliseum, freshmen Cheyenne Moore and Sam Perry apparently haven't spent too much time perusing the media guide for recent results.
Both said they would consider it an upset if the fourth-ranked Deacons win.
"That is how we are thinking," Moore said. "If anybody beats us, it is an upset. I think we can compete with anybody. Yeah, it would be an upset, pretty much."
Said Perry: "I totally agree with him."
Moore, a 6-6 forward from South Kent, Conn., said he hopes to draw the defensive assignment of guarding Justin Gray, the Deacons' leading scorer with 16.2 points a game. He said fellow freshman Cliff Hammonds will probably guard point guard Chris Paul of the Deacons.
"I think Cliff gets Paul," Moore said. "I am hoping I get Gray. I want Gray. I always want the challenge."
