With Beltran not resigning with Astros or signing with the Cubs, I am one who believes the Cards will now not only repeat as NL Central Champs but will repeat as NL Champions. Braves, Mets, and Giants have improved this offseason but not enough to beat the Cards IMO. Braves lack offense, Mets lack defense (though improved with Beltran) bullpen, and consistent offense, and Giants starting pitching and average age of team are against them. Cards have lost Renteria but they have managed a solid stop gap with Eckstein,Grudz, and possibly Alomar while adding Mulder. Any opinions?

Ekstein and Grudz in the middle infield??? LMFAO

It was lightning in a bottle and the Cards will struggle to break .500 next year. Mark my words. Pujols, a gimpy Rolen and an agind Edmonds surrounded by scrubs. An the bullpen will stink. And Carpenter, Maquis, et al will show some true colors. Fade Cards all year. Take that to the bank.
Beltran is overrated anyway. Prediction: Cubs will sign Magglio Ordonez and he will have better offensive numbers than Beltran.

I think Renteria was a huge loss..defense and clutch hitting presence...You cannot expect another career year from Edmonds either...Alot will depend on Pojols and Rolen...

I hope not. I want this town to be a one team city like GreenBay. Football is the only thing that matters.

LMAO- You can't be serious. The Cardinals completely own about 8 states in the midwest. The Rams could win 5 Super Bowls in a row, and will never be anything more than an afterthought.

What does that tell you about the midwest. Nothing more exciting than 162, 4 hour games in 100 degree heat.

Baseball is so boring.

I like football a lot better, myself. But I didn't know there was anyone in St Louis that didn't love the Cards. They are adored by all.

They wont spend no money. They have such a huge following why not raise ticket prices and sign a few superstars like the Yankees and Red Sox do. If it was such a faithful huge following they would do that. But its not. I remember about 20 years ago they didnt average 10,000 a game. I got my only foul ball because I was like one of 3 people in the upperdeck. The Stlouis fans are fair weather fans. You dont win. They wont support. Thats why we lost our first football team.

I'd have to disagree with you there, when it comes to the Cardinals. I think Cards fans are the most loyal in the business, and I don't think we really want to be like the Red Sox or Yankees. We've signed plenty of players who want to play in St Louis because it is a special place, not because they can make the most money there.

Nope. The Giants will return to win over 100 games this year as they filled every hole that kept them from barely winning their division last year. The pick-up of Alou in right field, Viquez at shortstop, Matheny at catcher and finally a closer, will add many, many wins to a team that went wire to wire two years ago and won over 100 games and the fact they had no closer last year that basically ended up costing them more then 25 blown saves will make this team very dangerous and they have already proven they own St.Louis in the post season each time they have played them. Look for the Giants to return to the top of the National League, provided, of course injuries don't take a toll on them, as would be the case for any team.

Oldman Ted, Matheny in your lineup is like having a pitcher hit. He is a automatic out.

Sure, been through there several times. I go down to about 5 or 6 Cards games a year.

Not exactly true. He bats about .600 every April and then finishes the year at .235.

He was brought in to handle the pitching staff. If the Giants wanted hitting they would have kept Pierzynski who hit into more inning ending double plays then was imaginable.

Matheny is a great catcher, and an even better person.

oldmanted,

I have to disagree with you about the Giants owning the Cards in the playoffs. Giants beat us 3 years ago but the only other matchup was in 87 when Cards beat the Giants. According to my record, each team has won a series. I do think Giants have improved but they will be like the Cubs last year as they are too old and injuries will play a major role as they do not have one starter under the age of 34. Rarely do you see a team set up like this win in the post season. LOL.

AR,

I have to tell you being from STL that adamently disagree with your assessment of Cardinal Fans. Without being rude, you are not even in the stratosphere on your statement. For whatever reason why you don't like the Cards is one thing but to portray your feelings towards Cardinal Fans only loses credibility for yourself as everyone and their mother knows differently. I would suggest letting it go as it is making you look foolish.LOL.
