Dick Gage, president of the Oregon Greyhound Association, is trying to find homes for more than 50 greyhounds sitting in kennels at the Multnomah Greyhound Park.

Magna Entertainment, which owns the park, has confirmed it will not renew its lease. That means dog racers and the retired racers adoption program are over.

Gage says Oregon law protects the greyhounds from being put to sleep, but without a proper facility, their futures are uncertain.

Most of the dogs up for adoption are retiring age, but some are former breeding stock who just want to slow down and enjoy the rest of their dog days.

Anyone interested in providing a home for a dog can reach the Multnomah Greyhound Kennel at (503) 669-2291.

The average price for the greyhounds is about $175.

Seriously... People need to start taking care of their god damn pets.

Drives me nuts... My ex gf and I had two little cats when we lived together. I never really wanted them but I cared for them, liked them, etc. Well when I left her I left her with the cats because she wanted them.

I told her over and over and over to get them fixed... She said "I did I did" Well... months later she had 4 new kittens or something... And she kept one of the kittens which then got pregnant itself.

When you multiply this stupidity by the # of people who own pets and don't have them fixed... You have overpopulation. There shouldn't be a dog or cat in the world that can't find a home.

And so it goes......
