I suffered from Anxiety disorders, Paranoid Schizophrenia, and Hypochondriasis. I used to wager ponies at a young age. Maybe so Dante, maybe so. :smoker2:

I have been called paranoid because of certain posting forum tendencies over the years.

Example: internet people have offered me referral bonuses I-don't-know-how-many times and I always decline because I don't want books that might be monitoring to connect my internet identity with my real account.

In my mind this is sensible because some books will slap restrictions on or ban people who know what they're doing. That's not something I conjured up in my imagination - I have heard a ton of stories. (Bet365 and Intertops are a couple of the bigger names that come to mind). My thinking is that having my account restricted by an important book will cost me more than the referral I am declining.

But maybe it's just paranoia.

Or I've had cases where I've had bets voided and I immediately flew off the handle thinking I had been bait-and-switched - but it just turned out there was a pitching change.

In outside life though, I feel like I'm less paranoid than average.

Could be... think about it, not only are we always stressed and uptight, watching lines, getting in our bets, sweating our bets...but when we win, we gotta get paid, take care of th money....think about it...

I would say yes...who wouldn't be a little more on edge? The thing I never realized is that this could be something that could be killing me quicker...I don't like that at all!

Most of us are scared of our own shadows

Look at me. I fear raccoons and possums and actually check under my bed at night to see if one is hiding, it is caled a phobia and cannot be corrected and I do beleive it is from gambling.

Bump for some more feedback...

It seems many are scared/paranoid of many things...like flying in a plane and such

is this more common in gamblers in general?

Yes, I believe they are. Gambling lends itself to mental illness, whether it be anxiety, panic, or depression. That is why it is so dangerous for so many people. The key is keeping those feelings in check.

I'm not afraid to fly, I'm afraid to crash...reward vs risk...way too much to lose for the reward...

I've never been one who believed that old saying , 'when your time is up, its up'...smart decisions factor into when 'your time is up'

I make a living off of playing poker, mainly online, but Ill play in some smaller 5/5 nl games around town, and I am always paranoid of being held up. I have since acquired protection to carry around with me. The fear is basically unfounded, but the protection makes me feel better.

I am a tortured soul. Are not all gamblers. Just watch the agony during any of those televised poker tournaments. I feel that is why they are watched by so many. It is the AGONY that sells. It's why we remember bad beats far more than the times we flat lucked out. It's pure hell. God I love it.

I think it's like this:

Love is the flip side of Hate.
Anxiety is the flip side of Boredom.

Paranoid is opposite to WHAT??

We all are sick of something..... I'm sick of the religious right telling me that I need to do such and such..... I don't bother them. They are the most paranoid folks in the world. One man's opinion.
