Honestly, Ace, BP is for seamheads and math freaks. Not that there's anything wrong with being one, but any statistical data you might glean will come with a lot more work than reading local newspapers, which you can do at sportspages.com. I recommend putting your effort into doing that, taking notes, and knowing what situations are right for individuals playing.

Mookdog,

I read alot. I don't have much of a life. I've read Blue Ribbon fotball and basketball from cover to cover. Thanks for the help.

No way Ace, BP is awesome. I strongly STRONGLY reccomend you pickup Ron Shandler's Baseball forcaster 2005. Almost hlf of my gambling strategy is derived from that awesome book. I believe a stathead team just won the world series..... GoodLuck.

All right, Bud, I'm intrigued. Tell me how you used BP. I've read it, and I don't knock it at all. Just haven't found ways to employ it in my daily handicapping. Any tips you have, I'm interested to hear.thanks

very useful for fantasy and stratomatic baseball. i guess it could be useful for wagering as well. really like the projections they make on a player having a bust-out year or turning into a bust...pretty accurate.

If you would like to instant message me at Budworth22, i'll explain it some. come baseball season i'll do a running thread, between 0 and 6 plays per day, usually closer to 0. The system is extremely complicated, and takes me about 3 hours to rework every time.

the Forcaster is kinda watered down more Lamens terms version of the stuff at baseballprospectus.com and rotohq.com. Baseball is the only sport that stats really really matter for gambling, because of the huge sample set. Football is an "event sport", where stats don't matter, unless they are stuational stats which I compile myself, like QB X versus defensive scheme Y.

Budworth is correct about the Forecaster, the stats they provide there are light years ahead of traditional baseball statistics. Their website is also great, I use it as a primary capping source. Prospectus is a great product, although it has a wider range of baseball topics it covers, so it is not as user friendly as Forecaster for pure capping. Still, I pick up both books every year and subscribe to both web sites. These sites and books provide you with much better statistical analysis, which simplifies your handicapping.

Baseball bettors have a unique opportunity right now to take advantage of the superior statistical innovations being made in the sport. The overwhelming majority will continue to handicap using stats like ERA and Batting Avg.; those who take advantage of the new statistical advancements will have a leg up on virtually everyone else. BTW, I hate math, you don't need to be able to do the calculations to harness the power of the information provided.

My 2 cents

Bud,
As a fledgling baseball bettor, I am already excited about some of the great info coming out on this board. You (or someone on this thread) said that baseball betting is primarily stat driven. By this do you mean that "systems" are inherently more effective in baseball as opposed to other sports? Thanks for the help.
