Actually, someone I just spoke was kind of pissed off due to today's bullshit National hollyday... Amazing how still nowadays there's such racial resentments..

With all the true bullshit holidays in the US it's sad how this one is still not 100% recognized. Hell you get 2 days off to give thanks (thanksgiving) for stealing the land from the Indians

Las Vegas weekend TV weatherman was fired yesterday for saying the temperature will be in the 60's on Martin Luther Coon Day. It was a slip of the tongue but any race insensitive remarks towards blacks will get you fired immediately.

Yeah Chuck, I got reprimanded once for calling Adolf Hitler as Adolf Shitler. Told my bosses it was a slip of the tongue but still got called out on it. :nono5:

I am in Arizona today (til Weds) and everyone here is saying that this state is the only one that doesn't recognize Martin Luther King day as a holiday. Don't know if it's true or not.

Speaking about Arizona and race - In October, the Senate unanimously approved a resolution by Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., that the president should give a posthumous pardon to boxer Jack Johnson, the first Black world heavyweight champion. This week, Johnson, who was convicted in 1913 on violations of the Mann Act, a vice law, will be the focus of a documentary by filmmaker Ken Burns premiering Wednesday and Thursday on PBS titled Unforgiveable Blackness. (I plan on watching and will post a notice if anyone is interested.)

McCain, Burns and others last year petitioned the Justice Department seeking Johnson's pardon, arguing that his conviction was racially motivated. No word on that petition. What else is new.

Many in the South recognize MLK but also feel the need to inject some confederate history. When I worked in Va. they called it "Lee-Jackson-King" day. To me, this is not-so-subtly racist and inappropriate, but there are many in those states that feel this is acceptable.

Its a national holiday so all the NBA bettors can have games all afternoon and bet unders blindly. Its now the most played angle in all of sports. I noticed every afternoon game tommorrow had its total drop from opener. Can't believe much value left in that.

It was signed into law in 1983 and we get the same question every year. First observed in 1986, however. And only observed in all 50 states for seven years.
