a year by grinding out a profit?

For the life of me, think more than not many gamblers would choose to breakeven and have loads of action.

Different strokes for different folks i reckon.

What category do each of you consider yourself in, if you care to say?

PS- In all probability, JJGOLD will have a personal heartwrenching answer to this question. :)

I started betting to make $10 bets and enjoy the action. But the thrill of the action, and the need for it disappeared after a few months. I like watching games that I have money on, but only if they win. Action sucks if you lose. So I guess you could say I am in this to make money. Not just money, but the feeling of winning. Action is great if you win!

Well this is coming the pro I am. I have had actually both scenarios through my years as a professional bettor. Early in my career when there was no internet I was a spot bettor and bet very big and you guys now the rest (gold chains, minks, fast cars, banging thick women, ect) Everyone wanted to be with me because I had cash and I was a sharp sportsbettor.

As the evolution of the internet and offshore boks I got away from it somewhat and got swallowed just as recent as the Oklahama game. (30k loss) Tried to get out.

We all have the action craze but years ago it was just not availabe like now with point and clicking betting.

My offices were open (6-8PM and maybe weekends double tight sessions so not much tme to get bets in and very few bet offeres. Many college games did not get dealt as bookmakers only would throw up 20 games on Saturday.

No look how everything has changed, tons of betting options and 24 hrs a day, unreal and locals were also forced to have bigger offereings and longer openings.

The action guy I am went fukkin crazy for years and years until it caught up with me. I would easily have over 140 games per week in action and all types of sports. It was more about having action every hour of the fukkn day and night. I held my own because of the pro that I am and private rebate deals based on action so I hung in there for years and only losing like 15k a year or so. It all caught up to me though and you guys no the deal with all the bank loans, sharks, borrowing money from HS kids, ect.

The goal was still to win but I lost focused. So many weekends I liked 5 games total for a dime each but ended up betiting every game on board for $200 just to follow and get the rush we all need.

Nothing like looking at your index card with over 75 bets on Saturday, made me cume. This past weekend I had over 135 bets ($10) each looking to grind and lost like $400 only. I loved it though.

When I establish a bankroll again I will be spot betting only and hopefully sticking to that and make cash again and rebuild. I do not kow if I will get swallowed in the action craze again as it is easy to do whe logging on all day.

Today I will be betting 3 tracks looking to hit some triples, I am broke boys but paid up on EVERY LOAN so now just use cash I have from side jobs and what some HS kids chip in (we have mini syndicate)

Learn a lesson from this post and be a selective bettor only and do not get swallowed up like I did.

May God Bless You All

..I do this only for the fun and prefer to bet on games im NOT watching..entertainment value in my case

Breakeven with tons of Action= Degenerate, one who has a need for the rush given off by placing the wager and being in the game. Outcome is of no consequence cause Degee got his fix.

Make $ 30,000++= Astute gambler who has his impulses under control and treats his gambling as a business.

The two are mutually exclusive. The less you bet, the higher the probabilty of making money and visa versa.

The thing is the guys with tons of action rarely break even, and the guys looking to make 30K don't have the discipline to quit if they ever do win that amount. So they eventually end up losing as well. Unless 30K to them is a drop in the bucket, and then it is all relative.

It takes a certain metality to win at betting sports, that is why so few do. It doesn't take any skill picking winners enough. You see a lot of guys post win rates from 55 to 60 something percent. But if they had to prove they were actually making money to save their lives I doubt they could.

Picking winners is the easy part. Having the mentality, the foresight and the self control to stick to a pan is what seperates the winners from the losers.

i think I qualify as a recreational bettor for fun. Bet $10.00-$20.00 game looking for semi mechanical systems and sometimes a feeling from following certain teams during a season. The internet has made it a lot easier and certainly one could get in trouble. I am in my 60,s amd thus can control money management pretty well. + or minus $500 is a nice year for me. Oh my day job I am a broker and trade options and futures for serious funds. I enjoy this site and I thought ace-ace and hitmans stuff this weekend was fabuolus hitman should be an option trader as it is all about the greeks and percentages. good luck to all this coming weekend i just put on shrinks 2.5-3.5 play root for 3.

Doesn't "grinding out out a profit" tend to mean having a lot of good action? Are you talking about large spot betting with that or are you talking about grinding out a profit by betting all the advantage plays available.

For sharp bettors, the more often they bet the more they profit.

i'd like to share my thoughts on this...when I first started sports betting a couple of years ago, my thing was to have fun while watching games...in my first month, I hit two huge parlays, which instilled a false confidence in myself, and made me think "hey this aint so hard.."...needless to say i didnt ht another one for a long while and proceeded to lose alot of money...after a while, I stopped, and went to just betting on sides and totals...since I had no idea about money management or maintaining a bankroll, even when I picked a good % o winners, I had no profit to show for it, because of my need to have a lot of acton and no bankroll discipline (i was even playing at the worst offshore books)...after finding the RX, and reading endless posts about money management, limiting your action, and the overall philosophy of every game (even the Super Bowl) being just another game, I have had more success...in my opinion picking your spots and managing your bankroll is the way to go, even if it means only picking 1 or 2 games out of 100 thats on the board...
