Does anyone have any idea what the charge is for general anesthology? This may sound unbelievable--but I swear ever word is true.

I'm scheduled to have surgery Feb. 1st for removal of a lipoma. (Have to be put to sleep for it. It will be done at Outpatient.) I have Blue Cross Insurance and they have approved the surgeon and outpatient charges after I meet the co-pays for each one. Now the unbelievable part is that the Anesthesioligy may not be paid for at ALL--they are in negotion with Blue Cross Plan that I have.
If so I'll be responsible for 100% of that charge. I am in shock about this but is what I am told. Does anyone have an estimate of what they charge ?

It's not like my insurance is free and now THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure which state you are in first. If in California or New York, it would obviously be more than this. But I would say that around $1000 would cover the physician cost. But of course the hospital may tack on some charges for meds

The reason for the negotiation is because some people may not be put under for some surgeries. Once the doctor talks with the insurance company and says that it is neccessary, then you will be ok

My son has had about 15-20 surgeries in his life and $3,500 is not unusal. Talk to the hospital about what is involved with getting an anesthesiologist that is a Blue Cross providor. Best of luck. Oh and we were in LA and now Hawaii so they are probably top dollar.

No--You misunderstand my question. The doctor has approved the general anestheology. HOWEVER, the ONLY company in this area that has anestheslogist is REJECTING the Blue Cross Plan--(they don't pay them enough is what I was told). There is NO OTHER Anesthelogist Company in the area--I am at their mercy.

General Anestheslogy charges are about what?
I can't believe that one company has a monopoly. But is what I'm told.

Then Blue Cross will pay their share and you will be responsible for the extra but have you called your insurance and asked them to fight this?

I suppose that I'll have to call them. But I don't know what good it will do. If the Anesthelogiest Company is rejecting my "particular" Blue Cross Plan. I'm just getting a blank feeling.

I have NEVER seen in my life so MANY people involved for my procedure. I really don't know: whosonfirst!
Get this :One paper says nothing to eat or drink after midnight before the surgery. Another paper in the same packet--say I can have clear liquids like water 7up aplle juice up until 4 hours before the surgery? WTF are these people SAYING !!!

I hope that figure is a typo or you had some type of more serious surgery than what I'm facing. (But thanks for the information)
