In the planning stages right now.

1. When is the best time to go? First week? middle? End?
2. Best party locations?
3. Places to avoid like the plague?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would say the 2nd week. you will have a blast. I been to many. the French Quarters is the place to party, have you ever heard of Bourbon Street or Royal Street. they do have alot of mugging there, as long as you dont wander off walking streets where there are no crowds. be real carefull for the pic pocketers, they will cut your pockets so fast you wont even know.the Parades are excellent on Canal Blvd. if you drink Hurricanes theres this place on St peters street I forget the name but you cant miss it, they serve you the hurricane in a glass shaped like a vase.you will meet alot of people there. just be careful and you will be ok. the whole days are over every place these days are dangerous. I hope you have a great time. good luck

No better place to have fun than Mardi Gras! i have gone 2 of the last 3 years, won't be going this year as its coming up too early to plan for it, but i can share some advice..

Try to stay at a hotel close to the quarter, its worth the cost to be able to roll in and out and not walk too far to get back. The first weekend is great becasue its not insanely crowded.

for some of the BEST food anywhere, check out Mike Anderson's on Bourbon, Seaport on Bourbon, and a little hole in the wall called Oceana on St Louis st i think, some of the BEST BBQ shrimp in the world there. You really can't go wrong in New Orleans!

We also had a blast learning about the quarter and the city on a grey line tour, i highly recommend this while its daylight and getting a break from the party.

I would avoid nothing, take it all in!

HAVE FUN and check out www.nola.com they have a live Bourbo cam from the Cat's Meow on Bourbon.

Rainbow & Brock ... thanks for the feedback, going to turn this into a 10-14 day vacation. I'm planning on renting the RV below with a few friends and turning into a road trip.

Good deal!

Make sure to walk the quarter from one end to the other, get the entire feel of the place, it is really something else.

Watch Easy Rider too, then Visit St Louis Cemetary #1 on the other side of Rampart and see where they filmed an important part of the movie...
