This story seems to repeat itself no matter where I go. The amount of interest people put into sports betting often carries them to sites like the Rx.com. Are they searching for knowledge or information?

Knowledge. Information is largely a byproduct of knowledge. Plus, information can be dangerous if you don't know how to use it properly. How does that saying go -- give a man a fish, he eats for the day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

I agree D2, & it's ironic that it's called "being in(formed w/) the know(ledge)", as knowledge definitely encompasses information.

The seasoned pros, by picking up tons of information via the years, and making contacts, eventually become the salty ones with knowledge.

Information, just as when in the hands of a professor, fed, intelligence officer, doctor,etc..must be developed into a knowledge base, as to be able to interpret it's context and possible applications, or be brought and presented to such an expert, that can best make said interpretations/applications.

Example, for every local tidbit of information offered say by an RXer on their local teams that may give insight to a possible edge, there are vastly more winners given out by many here(often the same one's w/info), in using their years of knowledge as the main criteria for the play.

The problem is that in spoerts gambling and actually any kinds of gambling information implies knowledge that the mainstream will not have that can give an inherant value to the player with the information.

In poker it is called picking up on tells. The otherplayer is giving that player information that many people may not pick up on. It is a definate advantage in the long run, especially if you play against that person a lot.

In sprots it almost always implies some inside info about the game. Be it an injury, someones girlfreind or wife leaving, a scandal that isn't widely known, all the way to knowledge that players are not going to try their hardest for any number of reasons.

Knowledge is simply that. Knowledge. An overall feel for whatever one is doing, and the smarts to do all the right things in the right situations. Like getting the best lines, not betting into 20 cent baseball lines, knowing the hold at certain common splits. To simple knowledge of the game itself. Whther it be the rules, the likely occurances or just plain stats stuff, that may or may not have anything to do with gambling whatsoever.

Knowlegde is random, information is specific.
